Under the name of anti-welfare, costs are recovered by every government department by cost-centre accounting and lands which were already paid by citizens were charged to citizens again in housing, hospital and utility bills etc.
This is bad.
Under the name of law and order, they came up with laws to prevent people from grouping of 5 calling it illegal assembly. This is bad.
Under the guise of racial harmony, they came up with GRC to grab political power for themselves.
This is bad.
Under the excuse of keeping talents, they design all kinds of method to pay themselves the lottery tickets just because a few CEOs were paid more than them.
That is bad.
Under the cloak of protecting classified info, they refuse to be accountable in the way they spend monies and lost them on suzhou or shin corp.
That is bad.
At the end it is still a more rowdy parliament where citizens' representatives are able to feel in charge and can question ministers that is better for law and order and our children's long-term survival and prosperity and not a protected system to suit the power that be to do as they like. -
You see that sometime in the korean, taiwan and even japan parliament.. are their economy or their country doing bad becuz of what happens in the parliament?
I'd prefer to see a parliament with full blooded passion debate rather than one that looks like an automated robots on a duty row.. -

Is it better to keep everything under a lid under a pressure cooker environment to look clean until the steam is no longer controllable, or better to have an open steamer where everything good bad and ugly is exposed for all to see?

Personal assertions? Why you are asserting that his asserts are his and you are asserting that there is a good. And please, tell us what is good about our system that allows the ministers to rob its own citizens legitimately. Perhaps you will also illustrate why there is a need for this "good" when other countries have demonstrated that their economies do not depend entirely on Govt policy but they successfully make a living for their own. That is the trouble with the bulk of Singaporeans; happy to live in a so-called Disneyland protected by external externalities, but too petrified to face down the ugly backside of it. So protected they feel their entire will to live rests on material goods and minimal effort put in.
Let's also do a count as to how long it takes our resident Village Idiot to budge in and demand we "substantiate" our "claims". -

1. Hospital bills...utility bills all this.....I think is just a middle way of running an organization without making it a bloated and incompetent public organization. So they are trying to instill some characteristics of private organization into it. This is actually good because it can avoid some public organizations ills and malaise.
A very good example of this desire is...HDB corporatization...and NUS/NTU extra autonomy....to quote 2 recent examples.
From those we can see the thought process.........they are going forward trying to deliver public goods but with private efficiency.
I think this is good. I like the Singapore model.
2. GRC is actually a kind of affirmative action to include more women and minorities. It is surprising anyone would find fault with this.....Is it not good to have an inclusive system, with more women and minorities? I thought this is actually healthy. Imagine if the opposite is true, if certain races are under-represented in parliament.....maybe it will cause discontent....So the current system is good.
3. High renumeration attracts and retain talent. I see that you keep bringing this point up. I have always said the same thing also. High salary = better people = better management. This is good, yet you think this is bad. It is really puzzling.
4. Other things is financial disclosure....this is the only point I agree with you. I also dont know why GIC etc...cannot be more transparent. Or at least more clearer reasons should be provided, if let's say they are confidential or what.
