Lee very late in understanding changes in RI : legislator
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Senior Singaporean politician Lee Kuan Yew is very late in understanding the political changes that have happened in Indonesia, a legislator said.
"Lee`s statement that the Singapore government can conclude bilateral cooperation agreements, including the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), only with the Indonesian government shows he is beginning to become senile," Andreas Pareira, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission I representing the Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDI-P), told ANTARA News here on Wednesday.
He said Lee Kuan Yew still regarded present-day Indonesia as being the Indonesia during the era of former president Soeharto who was his close friend.
"Wake up, Mr Lee. Present-day Indonesia is much more democratic and open than during the era when the two of you (Lee and Soeharto) could make bilateral agreements on your own on behalf of the two countries," Andreas said vehemently.
Hence, the young PDI-P politician said he would like to give Lee a political lesson on the new democratic era to Indonesia.
"The senior Singapore politician should know that in Indonesia now strategic decisions relating to the interest of many people can be made only with the approval of the House of Representatives which consists of political party members elected through elections that are possibly among the most democratic in the world," he said.
As to political democracy, according to Pareira, Singapore still needed to learn much, including from Indonesia.

He must have thought that time have stood still in Indonesia and not progress much through the year. Much like the political arena in Singapore.
I think throughout the years, he must have devoted his time thinking of how to "fix up" Singaporeans and detached himself from the outside world. -
First of all,
MM Lee Say a punching bag can bounce back.
(He was describing SG as a punching bag who can strike back when being use as a frustration tool by Indonesia)
Is that a provocation to indonesia?
Somehow,
MM Lee try to calm things down by stepping back and humble SG as a little red Dot that needs breathing space, and have its obligation fulfilled.
I seriously have no idea whether he is trying to provoke indonesia or humble SG.
Second of all,
It seems that indonesia really has undergone a new transformation in terms of democracy.
It's no longer a 1 man show by Suharto last time.
Indonesia has suddenly became a democratic country.
Third of all,
MM Lee still runs the 1 man show in Singapore.
After all, the fact that MM Lee is the God of Singapore cannot be changed so easily still remains.
4th of all,
Indonesia say MM Lee's years of experience is bull crap since Indonesia wants to teach MM Lee a political lesson. (Is this another provocation back to Singapore?)
The situation is getting out of hand.
Does MM Lee knows what a democratic country really is?
In our singaporean pledge,
we will build a democratic society based on ......Blah blah
MM Lee fails to live up to the old pledge.

I am not sure what the indonsian are interested, because as far as we can see, the so called "House of Representatives" is doing a terrible job in attracting FDI and creating jobs for the people. Maybe they themselves have other strategic interest in other area.

The old man would not be here forever, he have to quit one day. Or is he trying to show his own policies of 'Live till old, learn till old'?
Apparently he stopped learning, and started lecturing, long ago.
Time to retire, or the golden hours (golden years and days are way too long and over) will be much to suffer. -
