It is very difficult for citizens who have merits or abilities to go up their career ladder unless they are well connected. Meritocracy is just a namesake. This is more commonly known as cronyism which finally brought the downfall of whole society like Indonesia.
By supporting one another from recruitments to promotion, they practically control the whole government machinery.
If Durai did not become over-arrogant to have gone out of the way with his lawsuits, today he will still be very powerful well supported by the top echelons and their wives. Who can break such elite connection or cronyism built by the elites?
