CNA reported that:
1) Singapore's jobless rate fell to an all time low in the second quarter
2) Employment rose 61,900 at the same time

the seasonally adjusted figure of 63,000

Manufacturing and construction industries have always been an attractive ground for foreigners.
More Singaporeans are becoming unemployed but the jobless rate still fell due to the larger number of foreigners coming in for employment.

Big deal that Channelnews Asia announced that ''the jobless rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 2.4 per cent in the second quarter'' of 2007.
Should this hoopla even be made when the end-2005 unemployment rate was reported in Page 4 the IMF Country Report to be 2.5%.
Is there any great tectonic shift in unemployment with just a mere 0.1% difference after 18 months ?
Either this is one more effort to build up the ''good feel'' spirit leading to the Big National Hoopla, or another useless reason to justify for the atrociously obscene wage increases to the Cabinet Ministers and the Civil Service. -

Anyone of you singaporeans know what is the unemployment / employment rate?
Yes, news reported some figures. But if you open the eyes wider, its not difficult to find that it only shows unemployment rate for RESIDENTS.
As already pointed out in this thread by one of our dear forummer, RESIDENT = PR + Citizens.
Why no figure shown to public on how many citizens are unemployed ?
How many citizens occupied the jobs created?
How many of these jobs created went to the PR who are not citizens?
Has the opposition raised this question?
Why show unemployment / employment rate consisting of PR?
Why the people still do not know the answer?
I do not feel comfortable not knowing the truth.
We should be held responsible for the Truth.
We need the Truth in order to know the Reality.
I hope our opposition can press for the answer.

Do you agree that we as democratic citizens are responsible for how the country is behaving?
If so, with this responsibility , what can we do?
I do the following:
1. Educate people I know that we as democratic citizens have the responsibility for our own future and should contribute our own effort in
realising this. If we fail to achieve this, if we kpkb again, we must admit that we are also partly responsible for the situation.
2. Take on the responsibility to educate people that Honesty and Transparency are basic expectations of democrats like us.
Democracy cannot run by itself , a concept. Its all about the PEOPLE. What you want is what you can expect to get. If you fail to expect, you simply will not get what you want. As simple as that.
3. Admit that no matter how tough is the situation, how mission impossible the situation appears to be, everything is actually ultimately in the hands of
the PEOPLE. The people should be encouraged to believe in themselves and what they can do. If our country is not a democracy, what I said will not make sense. But it is. Its up to every tom and dick to uphold the Truth. -

I am convinced that many know and heard about the word democracy. But I doubt many of them know what it truely means.
