Dengue fever can develop to dengue 'hamerheige' fever or dengue shock. It can cause death.Originally posted by mir4cle:well , if someone takes panacedemol without knowing he gt dengue fever, when the fever comes back after medicine wears off, he will know that it's called 'persistent fever' liaoz, right?and that is one of the symptoms for dengue fever!
Some Chinese belive 'persistent fever' is due to "mao dan".It has no scientific basis.Originally posted by mir4cle:well , if someone takes panacedemol without knowing he gt dengue fever, when the fever comes back after medicine wears off, he will know that it's called 'persistent fever' liaoz, right?and that is one of the symptoms for dengue fever!
For starters, paracetamol is classed as analgesic/ mild anti-thrombotic if i'm not mistaken.Originally posted by PRP:Paracetamol doesn't cure a person's common cold or flu.It is your body immune system cure you.In fact, fever is good to you as it increases WBC & antibodies. So try not to take pain/fever killer when your body temperature is below 39 degree (high fever). What u need to do is to rest if u have common cold & flu.
My suspicion why some ppl who get dengue fever and their illness turns serious is because they take paracetamol when they are in the earlier stage of the illness.I believe the medicine impedes one's body immune system to fight the dengue virus.I'm not a doctor.
For common cold or flu, one's body can cure itself without medication. Is this correct?Originally posted by Othello_Red:For starters, paracetamol is classed as analgesic/ mild anti-thrombotic if i'm not mistaken.
The correct medication for cold/flu is anti-histamine. And that is simply for symptom relief. To actually go head-to-head with the virus you have to take an anti-viral, something like oseltamivir which is not commonly prescribed due to fears of viral resistance and adverse reactions.
Theoretically, the body doesn't cure itself. It simply waits for the virus to die. Funny things, these.Originally posted by PRP:For common cold or flu, one's body can cure itself without medication. Is this correct?
U said the corrct medication for flu is antihistamine but you also said it was a symptom relif.Does the medicine really cure runny nose?Originally posted by Othello_Red:For starters, paracetamol is classed as analgesic/ mild anti-thrombotic if i'm not mistaken.

What i understand is WBC kill viruses.Originally posted by Othello_Red:Theoretically, the body doesn't cure itself. It simply waits for the virus to die. Funny things, these.
That's the way it works with viruses. Essentially, you are simply trying to let the host out-live the parasite.
Originally posted by PRP:No it doesn't, because runny nose, or rhinorrhea is a symptom, not a disease. There's no way to cure a symptom without treating the disease.

Does antihistamine drug help to cure common cold or does it create problem for body? What's the pro & con for using the drug for common cold?Originally posted by Othello_Red:No it doesn't, because runny nose, or rhinorrhea is a symptom, not a disease. Also, WBCs do kill viruses, bacteria and pther pathogens through phagocytosis. Medication simply speeds that up. Anti-virals work in various ways while anti-biotics typically work through inhibiting translation in bacterial cells.
