every singaporean student should learn and sing the national anthem. Nothing wrong with that. Patriotism and Loyalty to the ruling dynasty are 2 separate issues.

Don't use the word force, know why you have to do what the school is teaching you, or else the school will force you to be on time for school, force you to attend classes, force you to do homework, force you...... -

Same with my school.But everytime i just stand still(with whats left of my pathetic respect toward the country) and my mouth will be right shut with no sound.I do not pledge alliegience toward Singapore as well.

Singing the national anthem is a sense of pride. While it should not be a 'forced' thing, it is difficult to educate youths at an early age, if force is not applied.
Of course, the use of unethical coersion is unjustified.
To this day, i can still recite my various school songs and the national anthem by heart. Was it forced upon me? Definitely; but was i against the idea? Certainly not. -

It is not a choice of whether you like it or not?
It is the most basic respect you have for Singapore.
Without Singapore,we will be nothing now.
Who got the audacity to say that forcing someone to sing is wrong?
One would argued with the right to freedom of speech but patriotism takes place over everything. -
can always go into the school at 8 am mah, then don't need to sing already

Majority of younger generations does not give a damm about singing the national anthem.
If they do it, its probaly just out of fear.
And this forcing of singing national anthem thing is just a huge irony.
How can we help, and make younger generations start to give damm about their country.
And be more aware of political issues? -
it's perfectly right to ask students to sing...but when u get punished for not singing or not singing loud enough...it is like forcing you already and that's not really right.....

What do you mean by 'force'? I was never forced to sing the national anthem during my school days and I don't think they will do that anyway.
