WRONG!Originally posted by googoomuck:Everyone dislikes to have his freedom curtailed.
The period of a jail term must be appropriately based on the type of offence committed.
A long jail term will be much feared by criminals. A jail term without parole is only to be reserved for hardcore criminals or multiple murderers, for example.
If an innocent man is convicted, he or his friends or relatives should be allowed to seek redress.
If the judiciary system has made an honest mistake, somebody will have to compensate dearly for his lost years. Remember recent case of a prisoner who was given an additional three strokes of the rotan.
actually , many judges in america(especially the federal ones) are slanted toward either conservative or liberal, depending on which president(republicans or democrats) appointed themOriginally posted by oxford mushroom:It reveals the weakness of the jury system and their forensic investigations. As for the death penalty, it stays! Majority of Singaporeans still support it.
death penalty's main purpose is to deter would be offenders. it has never been proven that it is effective.Originally posted by boka:WRONG!
That who are engaged in serious crimes such as terrorism, drug traffickign and human trafficking should be IMPRISIONED AND TORTURE FOR LIFE WITHOUT TRIAL.
HUMAN TRAFFICKER ARE NOT HUMAN BECAUSE IF THEY ARE,THEY WILL NOT ENGAGED IN HUMAN TRADING,therefore without a heart to feel, they should not feel any pain but the torture should serve as a validationto law enforcer and me who feast on the pleasure watching the evil receiving their punishment.
I'm talking about human mutilation of these criminals for a long period before they slowly die by themselve.Originally posted by unclebutcher:death penalty's main purpose is to deter would be offenders. it has never been proven that it is effective.

They are after all banes and only an cold iron will justice can bring these people to hell.
Even after death they should be defile and insulted, humiliated to their very core.
One good way would be to behead them and them and immediately kill their crime partners thereafter.
Well they'll witness it,the human head stay consious for 30 secs
How else will the victims of human trafficking be given justice?Originally posted by unclebutcher:hardline conservative arent you?

Nothing wrong.
Criminals are criminals,trash and bane.
What good do they serve?
When u put such idealogy and ultralism together,we create perfections.
Like always if u question the rationalisation and justicficaton of my actions, take some time and read up of issues regarding human trafficking.
considering ur from SJI,shouldn't be much of a difficulty.

all criminals may not be bad. they might have just made a single mistake when they're desperate. e.g. robbing a bank when they simply have no money to live on. eradicate these people? maybe hardcore criminals who repeatedly go back, but those who have simply made a mistake and will never commit a crime ever again?Originally posted by boka:O really.
I would wonder how will i face such punishment considering i want to dedicate my life to eradicate all criminals.
Tell me more.
The Sharia courts deserve no respect at all. Whoever works for them ought to be butchered.Originally posted by googoomuck:A case of death penalty commuted to life imprisonment and then finally to freedom.![]()
From looking like that...................................... to looking like this.
Mirza Tahir Hussain, a young UK citizen had killed a another man in self defence when he visited Pakistan. He was charged with murder.
Due to discrepancies in the prosecution and an appeal to high court, the case was sent back to the lower court for a re-trial and he was sentenced to life imprisonment. After appealing again to the high court, his conviction was quashed but the Federal Sharia Court reversed the high courtÂ’s decision and it was back to square one. He was guilty of murder again.
He was in prison for 18 years since 1988 for a crime he did not commit.
His execution was postponed several times, most recently until the end 2006.
Finally, when Mirza was about to be executed, Prince Charles made a plea to President Musharraf to spare MirzaÂ’s life. The death sentence was commuted to a life sentence. Under Pakistani law, this equated to a 14 year term. Since Mirza had already served 18 years, he was released on 17th Nov 2006.

have you heard of the yellow ribbon project?
nice story. but does an eye for an eye help anyone?Originally posted by boka:I always tried forcing myself to instill compassion within myself...but..
Let's take this step by step
Criminals robbing the bank to provide for their family is a noble act but the innocent life lose is a scar for life to those living...how do we undo such pain..we can never...
Most criminals are rotten...organised crime syndicates traffick humans and that accounts to 800,000 in figure trafficked around the globe...they do these to fuel their crime activities...using debt bondage, threats, drugs to manipulate their victims...
800,000......isn't that a huge number....?
They are human with family..with love ones...after being trafficked...chances of these people reuniting with their love ones are close to zero percent...
Can we really feel the misery of these people forced into slave camps, sweat shops working 20hours a day and the women serving 30 customers in brothel a day...all of them being supressed by their 'owner' for the next decades of their life until their activies are being expose or until the day they drop dead....?
Everytime i think of such inhuman acts,it makes me really sad and at times depress to know that the human civilisation at it's peak of technology and so successful continue to allow such inhumanly acts to flourish..
I guess i know too much of what is going on...and coupled with the fact that i'm living such a comfortable life in signaproe makes me so disgusted and useless....
I feel useless fo having to wait 5 more years to embark on a degree...and that means these people and more each year would have to be suffering in silence...
Doesn't the nubmer of people trafficked put the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in question...?
Really...behind my determination is really someone who's afraid that he cannot help these people...
I believe every human being is valued equally and no one lives is higher than another...
I'm merely someone who knows what he wants and has a calling to answer..
How does reformative justice help thenOriginally posted by unclebutcher:nice story. but does an eye for an eye help anyone?
Originally posted by googoomuck:Actually this is very likely to happen in Singapore and I'm sure it has happened many times before. In most countries you're considered innocent and you need evidence to prove you're guilty. Here if you're convicted of a crime you're automatically labeled as guilty and you need evidence proving your innocence which is similar to what happened in the story.

think la. in singapore the circumstantial and untrue evidence would never have been admissible. so your statement is wrong from the outset.[b]
