no need read newspaperOriginally posted by will4:I read in a local paper regarding foreign professional n they mentioned they liked to go back to their countries once they finished their work contract.
so our feet are on the ground... we are more in touch with the real world...Originally posted by qlqq9:How true is this topic! Yesterday, National DAy, I went out and really I saw mostly foreigners, saw only a few locals. The foreign indians are getting ready to celebrate National Day.
Sad!What has this country become? PAP is to be blamed!!!! Most locals I know are not keen on celebration on National DAy. To them though Singapore is not PAP, but when we watch the parade they are there. Besides, year in year out, they always claim credit to themselves on National Day. To me National Day is as good as PAP Day. Perhaps they should change August 9 to PAP Day.

Some of the PR also served NS n as for the professional professional, ,maybe they can perform in their work.Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:no need read newspaper
you can ask ur FT teachers, professors, engineers, accountants, doctors, nurses, actors, actresses, even construction workers and hookers...
thers is a chinese saying, gold nest, silver nest, the best is still your own dog nest...

if you have a choice, do you want to be an engineer in singapore or a MacDonald worker in Australia or USA???Originally posted by meltz:u forget one more place food court .. now aday most of the worker in food court are from china ..![]()
i have a feeling it's like telling people "you want, you stay... you don't want, you leave..." or aka "take it or leave it"Originally posted by will4:I have a feeling the National Day theme song by Kit Chan is about telling local to come back here though.
I think if you work at a fast food joint full time and paid on an hourly basis, you might likely be earning more than some white collar workers in Singapore.Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:if you have a choice, do you want to be an engineer in singapore or a MacDonald worker in Australia or USA???
My friend said he rather be a MacDonald worker in Australia or USA...
Haiz... some people's poison are some people's delicious food
I wonder if the local have watched the programme "Asian Expat" as to how Asian migrants make it in cities like US or Canada?Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:i have a feeling it's like telling people "you want, you stay... you don't want, you leave..." or aka "take it or leave it"
this is where i want to be...
if you don't want, this is not the place you want to be...
a lot of FTs want to come here to stay de...
haiz... so sad...
if you are parents, you welcome your neighbours' kids to come to your place to work, play and shit... but in the process, you neglect your own kids... and go to the extent to put them at a disadvantage...Originally posted by mochou:Nothing wrong with that, HongKong can reach the status they have achieved becos they are open, they welcome foreinger.
Just look at the garment business, HK dont manufacture(they used to, but not anymore), and the garments are meant to sell in US/EU retail market, but there are so many foreigners doing garment business in HK. Especially indians, many of them have trading company in HK, place order to china or other poor countries, and supply to EU/US clients.
Go to HK and you will see that beside HKer and PRCs, you see many foreigners, and even foreigners than became a local there. (Don't be suprised to see a Caucassian/Indian speaks very good cantonese to others HK ppl)
Why ppl choose to go there and why HKer dont whine and want to throw them out? Becos HK govt welcome them, HK ppl accept the challenge too.
I understand your point that these FT's, let's say PRC chinese, they still think China is thier home, China is their ultimate original "Parent", when they earn enough money, they will go back even they already have PR here. But as a PR here, or just a Employment pass holder, they still pay income tax, they spend money here with GST, just like everyone else. They take and they give. They earns the benefits as a PR, they also contribute to the society as a PR. Not like Singapore Govt give them free lunch and dont give singaporean free lunch.Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:if you are parents, you welcome your neighbours' kids to come to your place to work, play and shit... but in the process, you neglect your own kids... and go to the extent to put them at a disadvantage...
hence, some kids cannot tahan, they run away from home... the parents think "never mind... my kids run liao... i still got my neighbours' kids... i just groom them, grow them and good to them... hope that when the parents grow old, the neighbours' kids will take good care of them..."
but the parents forget that these neighbours' kids have their own home and parents... they will still go back to their orginal home... As Kit chan sing "this is where i want to be", i believe these neighbours' kids will know where they want to be deep inside their heart...
where are their own kids? maybe they got killed, they got injured, they got hurt after they run away from their parent's home... but they have no choice... it's so difficult when they want to take their first step out of their home... but they have no choice... they are treated unfairly, ill-treated, bullied by their own parents...
do you think they will come back... no, i don't think so...
the kids build their own nest outside the home...
the parents still insist they make the right choice... though the neighbours' kids all went back to their own nest...
maybe it's a story, maybe it will come true... maybe it takes time to tell...
btw, china and hong kong are brothers... younger brother definitely welcome his elder brother's kids to come to his home to work, play and shit... if we have people from pulau tekong and ubin to come to main land singapore to work, will we object??
when you want to invite your neighbours' to come to your place to work, play and shit, please remember your kids... some rich some poor, some educated some poor educated...
Locals overseas will hardly wanna come back for good. Knowing the sort of ruling party we have, they will not wanna make a comeback.Originally posted by will4:I have a feeling the National Day theme song by Kit Chan is about telling local to come back here though.
Don't compare HK with Singapore, it is so irrelevant!Originally posted by mochou:Nothing wrong with that, HongKong can reach the status they have achieved becos they are open, they welcome foreinger.

The problem is the foreigners bring their habits and mindset with them and the PRCs are communist! If you have been to China than you can understand why Singaporean will feel uneasy with them. They are too aggressive and they don't give a damn about you. We in Singapore have been brought up in a more genteel setting, pampered by our parents, fattened by the comforts of a stable home & school environment. But the world have changed and we have been "invaded" by the world and it is very difficult to adjust.
I also wish we can stay the "old" Singapore but we can't so we need to accept that the floodgates ahs been opened and how to preserve our Singapore identity and sanity.
