What would Singapore look like if the Old Gurads had not adopted
the following ten policies?
When u have few options,how u pick the best policy is an arts.
When do u know this is the best?After u implement it!
But sometimes ,when u find it is bad,it is too late.
Help me to post more smartest policy here.
1.National Service
Around 1970,SG offically announced Israel sent instructors
to train SG first batch officer cadets.
This increased much cofidence to then citizens and
sent a strong signal to our neighbour.
Remember MY and Indonesia once held a joint ex.near SG
during SG National Day!!
2.Build HDB sell to people.
SG now do better her master of housing,HK.
SG learns public housing fr HK.
3.Adopt export oriented policy,instead of import substitute
SG ,in early 1970's,against the then anti--colonial thinking,invited
MNC invested in SG and created jobs.The problem of high
unemployment was solved,but followed by the happy problem of
insufficient man power!!
Even small enterprises were eagerly invited from overseas
to set up factories here to make,u name it,mee hon, mosquitp coil,
toys,etc.Thats was how your grand/parents survive,folks.
Ask them how they experienced the tough period.

It can accommodate 4 runways from currently 2 runways.

Again,Against the advices from international consultants to use buses
as mass transport sys ,SG adpot MRT.

7. Graduate Mothers Scheme
Women who are Uni grads make better mothers, they have higher intelligence and a richer, more conducive environment to bring up their kids. It's a shame this scheme was scrapped.
8. Streaming
Weak children will grow up to be weak people. We need to stop them from mixing with the elites as they will influence the elites with their weak-minded thoughts. A pity this was scrapped, too.
9. Foreign Talent Scheme
Darn! We did so much for Singaporeans, now they are kowpehing and complaining! And we may even lose our 66.6% mandate in election! Nevermind, let's bring in foreigners and give them citizenship! Sooner or later the foreign-born citizens' votes will outnumber those whiny Singaporeans'!
10. Raising GST to help the poor
Do you know who's the poorest in Singapore? That's right, our dear beloved ministers! They work so hard each day, shooting arrows and going for meet-the-people sessions, and yet they are paid only a million each! Grossly underpaid, especially according to the infallible benchmark of salaries of top earners! Hell, they should get MORE than the top earners COMBINED, it was THEY who made Singapore what it is today! -

11. Restricting Press Freedom
The press wasn't voted in, hence they do not have the right to criticize the government! Somehow Speaker's Corner here criticize the government so much although it wasn't voted in too.
12. Singaporeans Are not smart enough to think what is best for themselves
It is a freak election result if the opposition is voted in. No this not that. Cannot this cannot that. Singaporeans need to be taught how to save. Singaporeans need to be taught how to date. Singaporeans need to be taught to give birth to more children. -

C. creating and changing GRC borders
D. Make opposition look incompetent and reduce opposition but not eliminating them to look like a democracy
E. Privatize public service into large private monopolies run by their own people -

What's wrong with educating more people? Let's not talk about the brainwashing done in school. Education is vital to any economy in the world; it is an undeniable fact. It is too strong a claim to say that schools churn out people not to become leaders. Being a leader does not mean being in the government. You can be one in your own field, in a company, or in a community group.

HDB flats are state owned, people who pay and live in them are lessees, not owners.
It was Ong Teng Cheong who pushed for the development of MRT despite facing opposition from his shorted sighted Cabinet colleagues, who all proposed the cheaper mode of transportation, the bus system. -

National Service was a smart move only insofar that it has created an environment for Singapore to mature, and for preparing a large armed force on the cheap.
The negative aspects of NS are that it created a large pool of cheap labor to help building spectator's stand for major National Events, and to provide cheap actors for entertainment as part of the National Psyche-Up Events.
Of course, the White Horses remained coddled in the arms of Senior Commanders, while the average sons are left in the hands of juniors to managed.
Yes, SG has outperformed HK in public housing by having a bloated bank account that leaves Singaporeans poor during old age.

It took HDB more then 30 years to reluctantly and grudgingly change its policies of allowing HDB homes to be used as a business address; while HK allow its Citizens the FREEDOM to decide on its use as long as it does not infringe on the rights of the neighbor.
HK public housing policies do not inpede any entrepreneurial efforts, and having achieved affordable housing, it leaves Hongkongers balance wealth to attend to their other needs, as well as being entrepreneurial.
Brilliant, we have killed local enterprise - including the neighborhood provision shop, and will go to extreme with ''even small enterprises were eagerly invited from overseas''.

Was anti-colonial thinking ingrained in Singapore, when even street names retained some illustrious names of famed colonial officials ?
If I remembered well, during the Colonial Days, our grand-fathers and fathers have all prospered in a liberal laisser-faire environment that was free from unfair competition from State funded enterprises.
The commercial and industrial world was largely in Private Hands, even the operation of public clubs, professional bodies, and associations were left to the moral standards of society to measure the validity of their existence.
Today, even the Singapore Turf Club and SICC are in the hands of government appointees.4.Respect all races

If the mind of a Senior Commander cannot manage the complex levels of the voice commands of a simple military parade - with more then a million eyes and camera lenses focused, it will reveal the quality of the Senior Commander to cope with any stressed situation.

The minorities are assured of their existence that their culture, traditions, and mother tongue will not fade away; can their image stand-up to the dominance of the culture and influence of the majority ethnic community - even in subtle ways ? Did you not read my post in A Blast from the Past' - in which Singapore Architect Tay Kheng Soon recounted the ridiculous position of the PWD in insisting on keeping the Singapore Airport at Paya Lebar Airport ?
If not for Tay Kheng Soon's blog the Singapore Airport saga would never have seen the light of day; and ''noisy propagandist'' will have a field day to brain-wash an ill informed public.extract from ''A Blast from the Past'' :
Paya Lebar was the civil airport at that time, Paya Lebar International Airport. So they wanted to enlarge the airport, to increase the capacity with another runway on this side and another runway on the other side. We had a drawing that showed the runways. Some of our engineers had experience with acoustic planning. We drew the acoustic diagram showing the flight path coming in, the noise level contours. It meant that the entire Mountbatten Road and - from Kallang Basin right up to Changi Road - that whole section and then on the north Hougang to Tampines, this whole strip would be sterilised. Impossible to live there, because of aircraft noise, plus the danger zone, the crash zone and so on. Because airport planning needs to have all these safety provisions. That will immediately make it unliveable for 1 million people. And PWD were planning it that way!
So when we saw this, we said this is no way we can accept this. So why not move the whole thing to Changi where the aircrafts will be coming in and taking off over the sea and not over populated areas. Man, they got so mad with us, you know, when we proposed this, because we were interfering you see, in their thinking. And this particular person in PWD subsequently left.6.MRT

The government was confused and had no clear idea as to what is the best for the future for Singapore, when already the Subway Systems have existed in every major cities across the globe since the 1950 and earlier - (the London Tube served as a bomb shelter during WW2).
The Singapore Government employed three different Consultant Groups and spent more then S$21 Million Dollars on consultation fees and received three conflicting reports - 1. all bus system to be improved; 2. all MRT system to be given priority; 3. a mix of MRT-public bus system to complement and support each system.
Even after these reports were received, the late President and Architect Ong Teng Cheong was tasked to make a final report after making a world tour to every major cities to study their subway system.7.pl help to make it 10 or more[/b]
Do you still need a list of more bungling decisions of this over glorified Government ?
8. How about the lost generations who could not advance into tertiary education as they were ''murdered'' by the insistent grade for Chinese Language before entry into local Universities ?
9. What about the lost generation that did not qualify for the Suitability Certificate to enter University due to their family background of doubtful political leanings ?
10. Will you accept the bungled Family Planning - 'Stop at TWO' Birth Control Policy that did not consider the geometric decline of population growth in less than two generation ?
Need any more to overshoot the tenth mark ?
11. Yes, LKY did publicly expressed his regret for introducing the Women's Charter - to protect Women's Rights; which in the process removed the environment in which men with financial and physical abilities are allowed to have more then one wife.
This has resulted in the large number of unmarried and intelligent Singaporean women, who would otherwise fulfilled LKY's scheme of the intelligent and abled producing more off-spring - instead of allowing those less capable and from the lower end of the communities to over-produce themselves.
