I am not sure if this is a win or a lose for 2LT Li.
However,
Can anyone tell me if the punishment for 2LT Li is more serious than a 2.5k Fine?
If 2LT Li's punishment is more serious than a 2.5k fine,
Then does it mean 2LT Li has failed to fight the system of superior shielding superior?
Vice versa,
If 2LT Li's punishment is lighter than a 2.5k fine,
All the NSF have something to cheer about. -
No punishment will ever be 'fair' in the eyes of everyone. Some will agree, and some will disagree.
It is regretable that LHL's son had his name plastered all over the papers while the perpertrator remains anoynomous.
His punishment was a straight fine, but the damage it will do to his career and credibility is significant. It is very probable that the SAF (or certain echelons) already know who the culprit is, and will no doubt blacklist him as a result of his actions.
The fine may appear light, but then so was Melvyn Tan's 5k fine for dodging NS, yet people tend to forget that he returned and was prepared to face the music despite such a long absence.
It is indeed time to move on. -

I remember my BSO went AWOL for a couple of days, all he got was a chewing by the CO. Hmm... I once knew this signed-on medic instructor who went AWOL for a few days.
He got demoted from 3SG to CPL... not sure what else he got, though. -

Was he trying to get attention from the public?
Whether or not he is really the PM's son, I feel that what that national serviceman has done is rather unwise of him - It is confidential matter and information that should only be circulated within the Army.
If this national serviceman cannot deal with this kind of situation well enough and makes a bigger problem out of it, (leaking of information) how can he then... handle more important and classified information? How can he also be someone trusted in the Army when the possibility of him betraying the Army by leaking out classified information is there?
Greatly saddened to see something like this happening in our own national Army...

A fine is higher than reprimand by 2 scale.
118. —(1) The punishments which may be awarded by sentence of a subordinate military court under this Act are, subject to section 112 (1) and to this section —
(a) death;
(b) imprisonment;
(c) discharge with ignominy;
(d) dismissal;
(e) special detention for a term not exceeding 3 months in a disciplinary barrack;
(f) detention for a term not exceeding 2 years;
(g) reduction in rank except that an officer shall not be reduced below the rank of second lieutenant and a warrant officer shall not be reduced below the rank of second warrant officer;
(h) forfeiture of seniority of rank and forfeiture of all or any part of his service for purposes of promotion;
(i) a fine;
(j) in the case of an offence which has occasioned any expense, loss or damage, deduction of pay;
(k) reprimand;
(l) such minor punishments as may from time to time be authorised by the Armed Forces Council in regulations made under this Act,
and references in this Act to any punishment provided by this Act are, subject to the limitation imposed in any particular case by the addition of the word “less” are references to any one or more of the punishments. -

I would dare say that all along, this matter was meant to be confidential. It just so happened someone came upon the email of complaint, saw who send it, and then decide to forward it to every mother son outside the SAF. The rest, as u know, is history. Quite simply, the camp that LTA Li is in should have some idea who that guy he complain is. I think that would be more than enough. My point is that this is an internal matter that should have been settled within the SAF. It blew up because 1)the surname of the person who make the complaint and ii)some itchy hand leak out the email to the rest of the world outside SAF. -
