I am not infallible, I am willing to admit my mistake when I made them, the error was committed because I was bamboozled by the PM's speech, which gives people the impression that the 1% for $60,000 was only meant for the poor, now that you have clarified it that it is also meant for the rich.
Then I wonder, what kind of helping the poor strategy is it? You give the poor $100 then you give the rich $100.

The mistake that m13 made was to apologise for a misperceived error in his cost that arrive at $120m.
However, the principle behind his statement that LHL's claim of the sum of $700m being the cost is wrong, and you have not proven yourself right in anyway - as your own methods of calculation is laughable, and have not even considered the actual data presented in the CPF form that you have quoted :
... as you have assumed that everyone in the 937,596 active holders are having $60,000 in their account by simply [$60k x 937,596 = $56,225,760,000].
If you refer back to CPF statistic on page 84, total number of people will $60,000 and above is 937,596, which mean, S$56,225,760,000 of CPF from this group will benefit from the 1% hike, which will cost the government $562,225,760
As for those below $60,000 group their total CPF value is S$12,015,540,000, of which 100% will benefit from the 1% interest hike and will cost the government = $120,014,540.
Total Cost : $562,225,820 + $120,014,540 = $682,713,040
Unfortunately, Life is not as straight forward, as if you were to take the trouble to add up the balance of all those with an account $60k and above, these 937,596 persons will have an active balance of $201,945,361,000.
If a Gazelle who realised that he is a skunk - can also know that the 1% suggested by LHL will cost more to the Government, do you think a kindergarten kid will not be able to know the same ?
