They know they are losers themselves, thats why they refused SIA the route even though they have signed trade agreement. W/o govt protection, those Aussies simply cannot compete with us.

same wif why sgp vehemently oppose to the new bridge replacing the causeway. singapore has a real risk of being bypass as a shipping route.

If you have 70% of Singaporean GLCs being bought over by Malaysia's State Investment Arm's subsidiaries after privatisation, then you'd come close to feeling the same way.
FDI is never something that the locals will embrace with open arms from Day One, until they feel and see with their own eyes that it will enhance their lives or ensure greater national prosperity.
So, try not to dismiss the Aussies' actions lightly.
Perhaps if you have blood ties in both countries and understand their culture more than just a passing international student or Singaporean working there ever will, you'd take things less at face value and try to understand the ramifications of Singaporean corporations owning close to 85% of ex-Aussie state firms. -
