it's clear that different charges will have to apply simply due to rate differences, which defeats the purpose. and why haven't singtel let its customers use optus in australia and not pay extra then?Originally posted by Mat Toro:its true, i was looking forward to it for the simple reason that there are so many msians and singaporeans crossing borders. It would have given value to consumers through seemless roam infrastructure.

errmm.. I don't take sides with any specific country, but this basically shows that most other countries do business with the welfare and interests of its own people in mind - not just focusing on the profits/revenues alone...Originally posted by ^tamago^:

Investec, which has a growing presence in Australia, is understood to have joined forces with the group of Telstra's biggest rivals known as G9, including Optus, Telecom New Zealand/Powertel, Primus and Macquarie Telecom.
The G9 says its network would be able to offer access to wholesalers, including the members of the G9 - Optus, AAPT, iiNet, Internode, Macquarie Telecom, PowerTel, Primus, Soul and TransAct - and anyone else who wants access, including, of course, Telstra itself. Access would be available at an average price of between $21 and $24 per customer per month, with basic access available for as little as $15. High speed broadband access would be available for about $45 per customer per month.

Optus,controlled by u and me,ie Singapore company--SingTel,
cant put on the hat so big.Optus is one of the 9 member in the group!
Why Telsta pin point Singapore,not
New Zealand ,South A and local Aussie company?
This is the most interesting point.Telstra seems imply that
G9 is controlled by Spore.

it is pussie mate?Originally posted by Mat Toro:Thats why these aussie losers cannot compete.
Well, Optus was once aussie owned. The aussies opted to cash out to singtel. In fact, they shoould be the one laughing all the way to the banks.Originally posted by LazerLordz:If you have 70% of Singaporean GLCs being bought over by Malaysia's State Investment Arm's subsidiaries after privatisation, then you'd come close to feeling the same way.
FDI is never something that the locals will embrace with open arms from Day One, until they feel and see with their own eyes that it will enhance their lives or ensure greater national prosperity.
So, try not to dismiss the Aussies' actions lightly.
Perhaps if you have blood ties in both countries and understand their culture more than just a passing international student or Singaporean working there ever will, you'd take things less at face value and try to understand the ramifications of Singaporean corporations owning close to 85% of ex-Aussie state firms.
dun come here and throw singaporean's face!Originally posted by Gazelle:it is pussie mate?
yup, singtel pay a premium for it, willing selling willing buyer. Australian should be glad that singtel is around or they will suffer what their national carrier did to them.Originally posted by shade343:Well, Optus was once aussie owned. If 70% of the GLCs were bought over by malaysia, why not? We have already cash out, and should be happy to pass the risk to someone else.
