Push to recycle blood
By Judith Tan
WATER and energy can be conserved. So too with blood.
The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is pushing for blood conservation at the national level.
Blood conservation involves re-using and recycling the patient's own blood during and after surgery, rather than turning to donor blood.
Dr Diana Teo, HSA's senior director of the Health Services Group, said conserved blood is an additional measure 'to meet the country's blood supply needs in the next five to 10 years'.
'We don't want to wait till an emergency situation like the flu pandemic to come up with alternatives,' she said.
The blood bank needs at least 350 units of blood every day to meet the transfusion needs of hospitals here.
Last year we had that mess with the ORGAN TRANSPLANTS... and everybody opt-out and not enough organs, next thing u know, the Health Minister extend HOTA to Muslims....
Then got the GAY HIV thing... so our Khaw Khaw now want to make HIV testing compulsory if u need to go hospital.
This year we got the mess with the BLOOD DONATION, and nobody want to donate.... u know what will happen next!! (If it happens, u saw it here first!)
Very easy to implement one... see,u admit hospital, they take your blood and send for HIV testing. If HIV +ve, they say too bad, then withdraw your subsidies and kick u out. If HIV -ve, they say very good, please 'DONATE' some more!!
Yesterday... NEWWATER... Tomorrow... NEWBLOOD!!
