Wanting an answer from the government

You guys sure knows about the Singapore Amrmed Forces's deployment of soldiers and police to Changi Airport. I saw in the news that a large number of infantry are everywhere at the main lobby and waiting area. In todays, a journalist talked about the deployment of these soldiers. She said that people don't understand why SAF infantry troops are being sent to the airport? They think that specialist who are trained to fight in urban area. They said that those infantry troops are not trained in Urban fighting ( which i think so ) and they think that the Heckler&Kosh Mp5 is a more suitable gun to use rather than the M16 and the SAR21 assault rifle. From what i knoe, the SAR21 can be used for such emergency. What do you think?
And do you think that terrorism would spread to Singapore? ( Singapore is an important economic centre) In channel Newsasia, there's a special report on the books by Osama, one page saying that"..... destroy vital economic centres and embassies....."
Do you think that the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia would be the U.S's next target? -
As long as it shoots, its useful. I don't see what the problem is. Whatever weapons they soldiers are deployed with, is what the soldiers are proficient with. Most Armed Forces soldiers are not trained with CQB weapons such as MP5s, or Shotguns. In anycase, the SAR-21 has shown that it can be used effectively in CQB.

Just like to say that I don't think FIBUA fighting skills can be applied so easily to a place like Changi Airport. I would suggest that these army personnel would have undergone some sort of briefing and additional training (minimal). It's more to have a military prescence and make people feel more secure.

The MP5 is not issued to infantry formations, for reason obvious. Police units within Changi will have access to the submachine guns should the situation arise. Why M-16s and SAR-21s? The airport terminals aren't really tight confined places. Though a carbine would be more efficient, such weapons are not available. So the M-16s and SAR-21s will have to suffice.

Face it, those troops are just a deterent factor to reassure foreigners and tourists that s'pore airport is safe enuff. -
Be it m16, carbine or SAR21.....how many live rounds do u think those specialists at changi airport are issued? SAF is just making its presence felt....

Anyway, I think Laksa is right. Show off real guns, such as assault rifles is a much better form of deterrent. I doubt they would be carrying 9 mags though. -
whatever the weapons, lets just hope that it will not be fired!lets be serious, the threats are real....at least our govt takes them seriously, unlike some countrys that deny that they have terrorists in their own backyard.
also, if anyone has even done guard duty, ur will know that the magazine is never inserted into the m16 when patrolling etc.take a look at the pics from the newspapers...the magazines are inserted. -

when I was doing guard duty back in 91 (gulf war period) in one of those sensitive units, our guard force was tripled fm 20 over to almost 60 over. Our load was a full mag of 20 rounds of nine mag - full battle load.
Our mission is quite similar to what those soldiers were deployed in Changi and Jurong Island - to deter and act against terrorist intrusions and sabotage acts.
Hence, I am sure those soldiers must be carrying a full battle load. -

The basis on why NS is formed ,is to counter any threats faced by our country.So, how can you say that those soldiers are being made use of to do such mudane task?These task are not mudane, the are directly linked to our county's survival.
