I hope the TS can be more accurate in presenting the TOPIC because last year is 2006, while the report is comparing 2004 to 2003, when Singapore is going through it recession.
I am saying this because there are many blind sheep in this forum, hence if you write like this, they will JUMP into conclusion that while economy is doing well, en bloc fever and minister salary etc and we have more and more people dying. And the cause will be because of GST hike that just kick in less than 2 months ago.

The Report - quoted by the TS - gave a Quantitative Number of persons who committed suicide in 2006 - and was not simply discussing about the number of suicides in 2003 and 2004.
If a report do not compare to previous years to determine if the subject Year is better or worst, which year should we make reference to as a base-line ?
If last year - 2006 is supposed to be a good year, and suicide rate is HIGHER than the suicide rates of 2003 to 2004 - (supposedly recession years according to you) - is there not something seriously amiss ?

If they value Life more than Singaporeans, it is simply due to the fact that they are largely a Catholic Community, and there are more than a few avenues open to them to survive in a corrupt society that allow wheeling and dealings to all.
A sort of level playing corrupt field at different levels.
Does Singapore has this environment - when the tail is allowed to slip away in order not to embarass the head, and the smaller fry is used as a scapegoat ?
