Quit arguing when none of you are going to help lessen the numbers of suicide cases in Singapore. Only got balls to talk and debate and no balls to step out and fix the problem.

low opinion? I actually admire them for the humility and cheerful nature. We have a lot to learn from the philipinos. yu need to learn from them too.
Only you will learn from those Taliban-type Filippinos in using these kids, when there are more cheerful Filippinos and Filippinas to work with in some normal relationship.
If you have no low opinions about the Philippines, or their citizens, you will not have such a low opinion about them selling their kids for their backsides to be used to earn a few pesos. -

a family friend of mine, he's in his late 50s and recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer stage 1....
He underwent surgery to remove the growth by having section of his colon surgically removed... prior to this, he had his knee joint replaced because they were worn out, and all this has significantly depleted his Medisave...
He has a daughter, but sadly, relationship between them isn't rosy... she was recently married, and is too busy earning money to keep he own family's neck above the waterline...
His wife at her age is still working, fortunately the company she is with keeps her employed, however, her health threatens to end her employability... she is soon to undergo surgery on her neck - a nerve close to her spine is somehow inflame due to bad posture....
Now that both are equally down and out, and their daughter is no where to be seen assisting them, me and my family offered to bring them meals daily...
Just yesterday, he was crying... he is in pain, and his daughter has abandoned him... it really hurts to watch a grown man crying...
Is this how a World Class First World counrty's society in general, is to get by in old age?
I know someone would throw in a line like; "They deserved it, because they didn't plan for their old age..."
For an average income earner, how can they plan for things like Colon Cancer? I wonder what kind fo Social Saftey Net is CPF & Medisave...? -

I believe all the social problems like widening income gap, suicide rates (whether from flats or MRT), etc are an endless spiral resulting from the poor governmance of PAP..
The policies have been tweaked to chase after the economic figures but nothing much has been done to address the social problems arising from the rapid economic growth...
Rather than keeping supporting the current government who create policies while sitting atop an ivory tower.. I shall cast my vote to the opposition to signal my displease with the current administration.. -

It does not take a genius to note that Philippines economy is merely a fraction of ours, but then again, it's an apple to orange comparison. Governing Philippines' archiepalago of islands is a near impossible task, coupled with the corruption rifle in their cabinet, to say nothing of their attempts to boost their national income.

Having to endure security checks everytime one transits from village to town, stay indoors during the day, restricted walks around the neighbourhood under guard to prevent kidnapping, i have a pretty good idea to the extent of the word 'tough'. Vigrants line the streets of Manila, and petty theft is rampant. The average youth does not have a proper education, and every corner, drugs and gang-style shootings are a common occurence.dunno abt suicide rate but they are definitely happier people because they are humble.

The people of Philippines are probably far more content if they had an iota of peace, food on the table and a decent job to hold down. And all these come from a competent government.
How far back was SG when our people hoped and prayed for the same things? In the days before independence, these were precisely the same goals. With the old guard in place, we expanded our reach beyond the need for basic necessities and evolved to the island state we are now.
We are not very different from them, just 40-50 years ahead. And most of us do not forget our humble beginnings.yes, abu sayyaf and milf too where people have to fight and die for their freedom while we take it for granted and still complen.
