Science is not limited but the human understanding of science is limited.Originally posted by soul_rage:Science limits the human brain too severely.
It causes us to become cynical and skeptical in a myopic way, since what Science can do or prove is very limited, given our limitations
It results in us being overly dependent on our 5 regular senses, and making it harder for us to develop our 6th sense, which I believe is inside everyone of us.
Yet, without science, as correctly pointed out by (human), many get enslaved easily by the crafty
All I want to say is, do not make Science the topmost priority in believing in something. Science has a lot of limitations at present
its your perspectiveOriginally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Science is not limited but the human understanding of science is limited.
and who created these basic principles to follow?Originally posted by PRP:Science has basic principles to follow. But human beings do make mistake or err or cheat.
I'm not sure who, but the basic principles are termed as the "Scientific Method".Originally posted by soul_rage:and who created these basic principles to follow?
Do u know what science is?If u do,what do u think of my opinion? If u don't,then of course u can't dicuss about this topic.Originally posted by Meat Pao:I thought what........
The threadstarter didnt elaborate anything at all...how to discuss anything?
Meat Pao.

I try not to sound like an Atheist when I describe Science to people, since I am not, but regardless how you disparage Science for not being 100% accurate, there is no denying that you are here typing on the computer because of the triumph of Quantum Mechanics some 50 or so years ago, and the fact that most of what you are using is a result of the great progress Science made in the last 3 centuries since Newton and before. Just because Scientists have been wrong before, and they have especially when it comes to Medicine since a lot of Studies are based on statistical evidence, otherwise, it has been right in many areas and has yet to be proven wrong.Originally posted by soul_rage:i don't know about you, but science always talks about proof
Then proof is made by Man
and Man can err
So Science to me is just POSSIBLY correct at a certain point of time, according to how much we know, which is finite and limited.
An example, how many times you hear its good to eat a certain thing, coz they did a sample on 1000 people, only to realize its wrong many many years later? How many times for eg. you hear a certain illness is connected to a certain gene, or a certain type of food we consumed, only to find out its wrong.
I don't believe too much in Science, but I believe more in tuning my spiritual connection with my surroundings. There are many things that Science cannot prove, and even if proven, may not be correct.
In fact, I like to say, there are MANY MANY MORE things Science CANNOT explain, as compared to the things that Science can explain.
So given the above, how can one just believe in Science and nothing else, since it only serves to limit his ability to comprehend more things (inside and outside of Science)
Science may be taken seriously, coz there is no other alternative since we depend on our 5 senses too much.
No I do not lose faith in Science. And yes, I am impressed with how much we have progressed. Indeed, we should continue to pursue down the paths of Science to bring us to the next level of progress.Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:I try not to sound like an Atheist when I describe Science to people, since I am not, but regardless how you disparage Science for not being 100% accurate, there is no denying that you are here typing on the computer because of the triumph of Quantum Mechanics some 50 or so years ago, and the fact that most of what you are using is a result of the great progress Science made in the last 3 centuries since Newton and before. And if a theory is wrong, then it should be corrected. There is no reason to lose faith in Science just because it is wrong. Anything can be wrong, even interpretations of the Bible, or some holy scripture, which by the way was also done by Man. Nothing is infallible, least of all religion, of which has led to many an abuse.
Admittedly, some Atheists take on a very religious view of Science and view anyone who doesn't share their views with a certain contempt, but that is for another thread.Originally posted by soul_rage:No I do not lose faith in Science. However, I am at odds with people whom think that Science is the holy grail, and that if Science cannot explain = things do not exist. This is very damaging to the human capability, as it artificially limits how much a person can progress, and progress is not only books and studies, or work, etc, but the progression of the mind as well.
Nice post, but then what can Man do to lower the chances of making wrong hypothesis?Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:I try not to sound like an Atheist when I describe Science to people, since I am not, but regardless how you disparage Science for not being 100% accurate, there is no denying that you are here typing on the computer because of the triumph of Quantum Mechanics some 50 or so years ago, and the fact that most of what you are using is a result of the great progress Science made in the last 3 centuries since Newton and before. When it comes to experiments, it should be verified at least by another group particularly for important results.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Nice post, but then what can Man do to lower the chances of making wrong hypothesis?
