the motivation of research is to deliver results. I think there are many results out there that are not really the truth, but are in fact results to reach the objective in mindOriginally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:When it comes to experiments, it should be verified at least by another group particularly for important results.
Another step, is peer review in which different people review the paper involved.
The final step, is vigorous proof and vigorous testing.
Unfortunately, sometimes it is hard to catch everything, and this was shown with regard to the S.Korean Professor who fabricated data etc.
It doesn't help when some publications, particularly those that cater to the layman, sensationalise results when they haven't undergone vigorous review or anything.
well say...Originally posted by soul_rage:the motivation of research is to deliver results. I think there are many results out there that are not really the truth, but are in fact results to reach the objective in mind
many times, researchers have an end in mind before they even start.
Admittedly, sometimes the regime can prove inflexible to many new ideas. I believe Einstein and Planck encountered this initially when they published their ground breaking theories.Originally posted by soul_rage:the motivation of research is to deliver results. The quote speaks about the power of propaganda.Originally posted by (human):There is nothing so absurd that it cannot be believed as truth if repeated often enough. -William James
I would say experience.
I would say it is more than propaganda.Originally posted by PRP:The quote speaks about the power of propaganda.
Yes, you are right. Some words are repeated often ,some or even many ppl would believe them.Originally posted by (human):I would say it is more than propaganda.
So I think the result of a resarch by a person or a single group can't be taken as absolute scientific truth. More ppl should do the same research to verify whether that finding is true.Originally posted by soul_rage:the motivation of research is to deliver results. Even with a few groups, there is still a the possibility of the research results being incorrect. That is evident with past articles where even solid research may be discovered to be incorrect.Originally posted by PRP:So I think the result of a resarch by a person or a single group can't be taken as absolute scientific truth. I highly disagree with soul_rage about science being subject to the human discovery. Science has always being present before the advent of Man.Originally posted by soul_rage:Even with a few groups, there is still a the possibility of the research results being incorrect. End of the day, what is before us, may not be the truth still.
That's why I say Science is not absolute. Even if Science says this is true, due to research findings, still may not be true
"most ppl can agree"??? Try again my friend.Originally posted by PRP:Believe in science & ethics!I think this is a belief which most ppl can agree.
interesting opinion.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:I highly disagree with soul_rage about science being subject to the human discovery. Science has always being present before the advent of Man.
The fault lies with researchers and not science.Originally posted by soul_rage:Even with a few groups, there is still a the possibility of the research results being incorrect. That is evident with past articles where even solid research may be discovered to be incorrect.

How many things we enjoy today are not due to the advance of science?Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:"most ppl can agree"??? Try again my friend.![]()
I give u a hint:Originally posted by PRP:How many things we enjoy today are not due to the advance of science?
So u enjoy the fruits of the scientific advancements but don't believe in science?
U don't believe in ethics?U believe in cheating & harming others?
Yet, researchers are the ones that advance Science.Originally posted by PRP:The fault lies with researchers and not science.
Then again, I am not against Science.Originally posted by PRP:How many things we enjoy today are not due to the advance of science?
So u enjoy the fruits of the scientific advancements but don't believe in science?
U don't believe in ethics?U believe in cheating & harming others?
Do u believe in science?Do u believe the science u learned in school?Pls answer.Originally posted by soul_rage:Yet, researchers are the ones that advance Science.
And since researchers err quite commonly, due to several different reasons, therefore, based on Discrete Mathematics proving, it is proven that Science cannot be an absolute, nor can you take its results as the truth, and nothing by the truth.
Mind you, I am using Science (Maths itself is a Science) to prove to you that Science cannot be trusted.
If its not researchers, then please tell me where does Science come from?
Again, I refer you to the definition of Science I posted. Unless you have your own definition.
Yes,there is greed. But does that affect our believe in science?Science has improved our lives GREATLY!Originally posted by Gun:I give u a hint:
Imagine what goes on in the minds of CEO of a typical drug/pharmaceutical company or ho$pital today. Science has become the slave of today's cooperate greed and commercialisation.
Don't agree?
2nd Hint: Guess who's Law is most financially rewarding today?
Issac Newton's laws of motion or
Adam Smith's concept on free trade & capitalism?
Oh, I love another capitalist slogan from HollywoodGreed is Good.......and it is losely based on C Darwin's theory of Evolution.
I DO NOT believe that Science holds all the answersOriginally posted by PRP:Do u believe in science?Do u believe the science u learned in school?Pls answer.
dear friendOriginally posted by PRP:Yes,there is greed. But does that affect our believe in science?Science has improved our lives GREATLY!
I blieve u should know too.Originally posted by soul_rage:dear friend
in which aspect of life does Science improve your life greatly?
The materialistic part?
The spiritual part?
Pls answer the qn above.
Thanks
About Galileo,he believed in science but the Church didn't.Originally posted by soul_rage:I DO NOT believe that Science holds all the answers
In fact, Science holds only SOME answers
That's all I will believe in. And I am also open to the possibility that Science can be wrong, and like all new products, new discoveries in Science requires many years before the discovery is considered mature and established.
So yes, maybe those Science discoveries we learnt in school (Primary to JC) may be considered more established.
What about you? Are you going to be like the Church when they isolate Galileo because he could not prove at that time his theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun, and not vice versa?
Then you should know that Science only satisfies us in a very limited manner.Originally posted by PRP:I blieve u should know too.
