Stupid - change of Address policy in IC

Hi I changed my address recently , and as you guys know ,anyone of us can change our address at any police post. Sometime they don't even look at any proof ,you just read out to them....they will type it out..
They will type it out ,paste a sticker on your IC...thats it.
Can't they just change the whole IC instead of pasting stickers? (you can change it at home yourself )
Don't they have the brain to think, any tom dick or harry can just change our address , anyhow... "harmtumb ". some can even put their neighbour or enemies address... then worst part go and borrow loan sharks...
And the poor chap who's address was hijacked, kana all the harassment...
I cannot accept, we are paying million of dollars to our top talent to come out with this kind of policy...

i rather paste the stickers than to pay money to change the entire IC and i have to surrender the IC, and wait for a new one, and that takes times!

You just need a computer and a good printer, paste your own stickers when you in need of money,and then pay the loan shark a visit...
After getting the money, tear away the stickers...
Your real address is not change...

Just go and read the straits times forum, this two days yourself..
Many ppl kana loan shark harrassment,even though they did not borrow from them and they have never lose their IC before...they wonder why??

KNN keep receiving calls from fake "insurance/credit card/bank agents" -

the upper level say to paste sticker, the lower level will do as told and get all the blames -

Your IC is supposed to be in your possession, why do you allow any tom dick and harry to make changes on your IC?
why would anybody want to use their neighbour's address on their IC? so when you fail to pay your instalment the bank would go after your neighbor?
Your IC is your identity, you alone are responsible for its safe keeping. You can change whatever you want on the little pink card, but you can't change the corresponding data stored with the government. If I am not wrong, once you change your address, your accounts with POSB/DBS, together with PUB, Telecom.... are automatically updated.
Don't be too quick to question anybody if you cannot see beyong the sticking of papar, don't be too quick to blame the system if you didn't see the updating of your data in the system, what do I think?? did you think?? -
Paste sticker is FREE
If you dont want the sticker, you can get then IC replaced for $100. or wait till 30yo

the 'address sticker' that you talk about is actually a controlled form, an official document. it has serial numbers, and one can trace the particulars of the one who requested the address change simply by looking at the serial number of the sticker. if it really has been done, then tracing the person who made the address change is as easy as ABC.Originally posted by WohuCangLong:

not anyone can gain access to these forms. only ICA and Police Stations stock these forms, and they are not to be taken out of such places.
anyway, registering a false address is an offence punishable by a maximum fine of $5000 and prison sentence of 5 years. and this is just one charge of many that the perpetrator can face. -
apart from all that stated.. your reporting the change of address to the cop or to the ICA fellas is an Official Statement..
if you lie in that official statement, you can and will be charged with a whole lot of things under the Penal Code and dunno what else...
the reporting of address is not as simple as printing the sticker.. which, like someone said, is a controlled document.. it also updates a database..
so, if you say someone come and throw paint at you, and investigations go that way, they look up your address, see someone who has your address and is not actually living there, they can go arrest the guy and throw the book at him..
do look more than just the surface?
btw, your IC, it's not made of the same stuff your credit cards are made of.. it's made of polycarbonate.. it's tougher than you think -

and... just to add, the sections under the penal code for lying when obligated to tell the truth could be either sec 191 and/or 192, and/or sec 181, 182 depending on the status of the public officer who recorded the transaction.

Ts... what a shame. Maybe the next time u decide to post something ridiculous you'd do a little more research before shooting your mouth off at how easy the police have it and the "precious" amount of time you spent at the station when all they did was to "paste a mere sticker inwhich you could have done so yourself".

I think it is wonderful we can change our address at the police post. It saves alot of hassles and it updates my address at once with LTA, MOM,IRAS (govt dept only not bank accounts. that u have to do yourself). And for your info, definitely need to show proof like lawyer letter or HDB letter for property changes.
