What failed to get implemented due to public disapproval?

WAS 'anything' ever meant for the people's Approval or Disaprroval??
The attitude of the government is that they feel they can THINK BETTER for us all....
if it was so, how come there are all these issues now such as uneployment, growing aged people, widening income gap, leaking local talents, etc..???
If the were REALLY so smart and far-sighted, they SHOULD have foreseen all of the above issues!!!!

These past few weeks, I have been thinking about the way the good gahmen treat the people of Singapore. Thought about how they care to listen to the voice from the people and base on the voice they do something to help the people. so far, I think of nothing that the govt is doing to listen to us. The way we are treated is - they are parents and we are their kids. so as parents, they demand respect and obedience from us.
As long as they are in power, I don't foresee that they will base on the approval of the people to lead the nation. Heard from either the son or the old papa that they cannot always make popular decision. Hey, what do they mean by that, they have hardly make any decision that are well received by the people.

There is a gradual decline in the winning percentage of votes for the last 2 elections. The winning percentage at the last election was lower compared to the election before last year. So far don't see them reflecting on their past performance to find out about the cause for the decline in the winning votes. They just take it that whatever they do we as the people of Singapore have to take it, without putting in effort to listen to the needs and approval from the people. They rule the nation without conscience. They fail to see that it is the people who have given them the opportunity to lead Singapore. -

there is constant inflow of new citizens from India and China and even USA.
So, what does this indicate?
Now that singapore can have any number of immigrants it wants by opening up the gates and making it very convenient to get citizenship, do you think there is a need to worry if our local talents migrate?
More migrate = more 'seats' vacant for occupation?

Nah I think the govt is just being stupidly stubborn. Everyone knows what will happen when you accept new citizens almost indiscriminately. We'll just keep going backward socially. As for the older batch of Singaporeans, we've basically been given a straightforward, cold message - shape up or else.
Funny, it seems like the govt is handling this as more of a corporate "retrenchment" exercise instead of one of the country's affairs. There is a vast difference between "company" and "country", and I think we can't hope for real improvement here on the ground as long as the status quo is maintained.
