And I don't understand how can the GST 7% make people's life better? Do you think the GST helps them?

Sad to see that the government has turn a blind eye to these people, it's easier for them to ignore the existence of such people rather than giving these people a helping hand.
Poor people don't exist in Singapore? These are the kind of policies P4P makes from their ivory tower, they don't see the longkang, only see the blue skies. They don't even know how pack our MRT are during peak hours and they suggest increasing the population to 6.5 million. This is the style of governance from P4P, they adopt a top down approach which disconnects themselves from the reality of the lower strata of society.
Maybe they do know the existence of such people, but they chose not to help them, afterall Singapore is not a welfare state, if an individual should lie on the street dying, everybody should just walk on by. The governments revenue from GST of 7% alone is approximately $5.5 billion, yet they can't use a measly 0.5% to provide a basic standard of living for these old homeless folks living on the streets. What is the use of having an extremely high amount of reserves when it's only in paper? What have they done to help the needy in reality? I think that's something they have to figure out for themselves, having high reserves which is only in paper or helping needy folks in the real world.
Progress of a society is not only based on material well being, things like mutual respect, empathy also counts in measuring how a society has progressed. In my opinion, a society who only focuses on material goods and the numbers in GDP are no better than a bunch of barbarians living in a condominium. They have the material wealth, but they lack the social graces and culture.
