Many here are probably established professionals in their own right. However, I cannot opine the same about those medical officers who have served their NS dispensing rapidols to feverish patients and having to deal with malingering every other day. Dumb doctors we have these days huh? -

I think luxury industry includes all things as long as luxury and lots of money involved. It need not be ethical. -
During our last rececession, I remember LKY mentioned that Singapore future will have to be more service oriented as mass productions are things of the past for Singapore due to lower cost countries like China and India.Originally posted by dragg:mostly service line.

If you don't earn as much as Durai even after his court cases, blame the government. I tell you, the media loves lying, full stop. As far as i'm concerned, its the same number of jobs from last year or last two years. In fact, fining jobs recently has been a bit tough due to some unknown reason.
As a side note, I did notice a very slight demand compared to the past in the sales and sevicies sector. However recently, there has be an unusually high demand in the fashion / hair industry for hairstylist and those trade. Maybe its time to pick up a hairdressing course?

Its entirely up to you or the forum for that matter to believe the words. I'm not sure you have been looking for a job recently or not. If you do, then you will see what I mean. It has not been much different many years ago. As you get older, your chances of securing your next job will be tougher because you lack industry knowledge and working experience. Time wasting cannot be compared just like that. I have already did many countless jobs, too many to count, maybe three dozen. But I never once felt that my time was wasted. In fact, the only thing I felt that really wasted my time was that bloody two years of National Service. Add to that the ridiculous ten-year cycle of annual reservist. Singapore economy adds some 13,800 jobs in first six months

SINGAPORE: Singapore's strong economic growth has led to some 113,800 jobs being created in the first half of this year.
Employment growth during that period was some 40% higher than the 81,500 new jobs created in the same period last year.
Wages are also on the upswing, with average monthly earnings rising by 8.5% in the second quarter.
That is up from the 5.5% growth posted in the previous quarter.
The increase is the highest registered since the last economic boom in 2000, when earnings rose by 8.9%.
The strong growth came on the back of a robust second-quarter employment figure.
Total employment rose by an all-time quarterly high of 64,400 in the three months to June, surpassing the 49,400 workers hired in the first quarter and 36,400 in the second quarter of last year.
Total employment in the second quarter was revised upwards from the preliminary figure of about 62,000.
Releasing the updated data on Friday, the Manpower Ministry said last year's strong labour market performance has continued to this year.
Among the robust growth: overall unemployment rate dropped to 2.3% in June, fewer workers were retrenched and the number of job vacancies had increased.
A total of 1,918 workers were retrenched in the June quarter, significantly lower than the 3,263 laid off in the same period last year, MOM said.
Labour productivity also went up marginally, by 0.4% in the second quarter, ending the decline in productivity recorded in the previous two quarters.
MOM said that with a tightening labour market, cost pressures continue to rise, but it is at a more moderated pace with the improvement in productivity.
After expanding 7.9 per cent in 2006, Singapore's economy sustained the growth to grow 6.4 per cent in the three months to March and a better-than-expected 8.6 per cent in the June quarter.
This prompted the Ministry of Trade and Industry to upgrade its 2007 forecast for GDP to grow between 7.0 and 8.0 per cent, from 5.0 to 7.0 per cent. -

Let's talk about foreign scholars since I'm still a student. Are they as good? Definitely not. The number of Singaporeans better than these people are just so many.
In my opinion, I wouldn't complain about whether these people are good. I would say, why aren't they better? Is the govt capable of only attracting these?

that what ruling party/govt are for right? work for us isnt it?
i dont earn as much as durai and in fact i feel dont sour that durai earning 25k/mth, this is private matters. i only hope more ppl can be prosecuted for the NKF issues.
well our PM and ministers are earning millions a year we definitely hope they can work much harder for us than they are working harder for themselves. for that the one that really had to look in the mirror is them not us commoners. -
