Hai, when I heard that the Power Grid and our Monopoly Transport system can claim fare increase in the future possible event of rising oil costs. nothing is impossible, they might as well tell me that the pigs are flying as long as it is reality for some small number of people, it will be reality for everyone.
The moral of the story is: everyone also lan lan have to accept so why even bother to make believable lies when unbelievable ones are just as well -

To be fair, I think our PM did tell us the number of old age people at the 70s, 80s and 90s but I am quite sure he did not spell out the percentage of those who are at that age groups that are on long term medication and unfit for work or are fit for work but on long term medication. So it may give the wrong impression.
Those who are in these age groups, if they are fit and well, are able to work to sustain themselves beyond basic necessities. If they do not work and are to rely on annuities, they are probably just able to get by basic necessities if the payouts can catch up with inflation. What if they are on long term medication? Will the annuity help?
By moving the CPF withdrawal age up and making annuities compulsory for those below 50, it becomes difficult for an unfit person who is not working to draw down on his CPF remaining (after the annuity purchase) to fund his medical bills.
Govt (or the civil servants planning these) may need to fine-tune the policies to make sure that this group is taken care of. And I have reason to suspect that this group is the MAJORITY of those above 70 unless the census department is able to dispute me. -
