And I observe that a proportion of Singaporean youths are self-absorbed losers who can only rant about everything under sun. It's always the government's fault, not their own laziness. On the other hand, I observe students from China who arrive hardly able to speak a word, working their guts out, memorizing 40 words a day and winning prestigious scholarships. And I conclude we could much better exchanging our losers for some of these Chinese students instead.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Why?I cannot observe the youths in Singapore and come to certain conclusions?
Failure of the education system and failure of the public money grabbing leadership to sincerely educate/motivate the citizenry towards high ideals. What they want are unthinking sheep to work in their industries and this is the result.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:And I observe that a proportion of Singaporean youths are self-absorbed losers who can only rant about everything under sun. We have enough on our hands worrying about the Singapore youths to worry about the UK youths. They have a 1st world leadership there and the decisions of the politicians are transparent and well scrutinized and if the decisions are that bad, people can protest on the streets.Originally posted by mancha:How do we balance between the pityful Singapore youth and the pityful UK youth
I don't think it is "a more liberal land" and the phrase, "brought up in a land with honorable leadership" is better.Originally posted by LazerLordz:You can't expect people who have not been brought up in a more liberal land to understand your concepts.
Logical fallacy. Not blaming everyone else DOES NOT mean you have good thinking skills.Originally posted by hloc:Hahaha.... If I don't have good thinking skill.... I would be like you, blaming everyone else. I won't be writing here with my own view. To think that only your view is correct, shows very much whos the one with the poor thinkin skill Mr. Green
Jobs which require working their guts out, memorizing 40 words a day are about all replaced by computers now. What we need is creative, innovative and critical-thinking workforce. That's what separates man from machine.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:And I observe that a proportion of Singaporean youths are self-absorbed losers who can only rant about everything under sun. Really ah? Our parents could buy a private property by working in a decent job for ten/twenty years. Does that mean 90% of Singaporean parents are not working in decent jobs?Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Their parents used to spend ten/twenty years (like in most other countries) working in a decent job to get a private property right here in Singapore but you-know-who has pushed/allowed property prices to sky-rocket so that the youths now cannot do what their parents could do in Singapore.
Where did you get that 90%?Originally posted by pearlie27:Really ah? Our parents could buy a private property by working in a decent job for ten/twenty years. Does that mean 90% of Singaporean parents are not working in decent jobs?

That's true but in most cases it is because they can't afford it.Originally posted by Where Is God:Another logical fallacy.
Not buying a private house, does not mean you can't afford one.
For those of you who think our youth have it good, have not really left this country and stayed/worked abroad for a bit.Originally posted by gorby107:I think most of the youths are just concerned in their daily lives and not with the current situation that is happening in our country and the world.
This is quite worrying as this will also affect them when they are out in the society, they are not taught on how to deal with hardships or working with people. This may put them at a disadvantage. They feel that the PAP government is able to help them out to get them out of a crisis when there is one.
This is due that they put their priority on their studies as this will determine on their future.
The way we study is meaningless where we will absorb like mad and store it in a cylinder, and pour it away once the exams are over.

And how do you know that it is true for most cases? How much is most? Where did you this figure?Originally posted by pearlie27:That's true but in most cases it is because they can't afford it.
