would anybody have any idea about treated water?
if Sg removes the subsidies and factors in inflation for the price of treated water, what would it cost them?
well, we know that its not an extremely strong bargaining tool anymore. their own water treatment plant is operational and they fully expect to be self sufficient in treated water soon too.
but just for information purposes... how much?
According to SG Government, it costs us $2.50 or so to treat 1000 gallons of raw water to make it potable, at current prices.
This would have taken into consideration that the infrastructure cost built during the mid-1960's or earlier would have been depreciated to minimal book value; and that the cost is purely for operational and consumable items.
If we are to take current estimate from the MALAYsian Government last publicised report that claimed their RM480 million Water Treatment Plant will be operational by 2005 - to begin treating water for Johoreans - we should use that as a baseline and add on current treatment costs from our books, to determine the actual costs of treated water.
However, we should check that the price to build the Water Treatment Plant, at RM480 million, is the correct and best competitive price available - this is based on the state of affairs of "money culture" that are commonly practised in MALAYsia.
