A town council's staff high-handed attitude

I saw a notice from a town council which states that "your bicycle is parked at undesignated place/pls park at bike rack/failing which we will remove it to the rubbish dump."Is the staff of the town council high handed?
People want to have convenience.Even if the staff of town council ride a bike, he would probably do the same thing.Just because the bike is parked at unauthorised place and they want to throw it away.Isn't it too much?
Is a bicycle very ugly that become a eyesore?Do the town council staff have the legal right to throw other's ppl property away? -
I seem to recall a lot of 20+ bikes just got burnt in a fire...
There must be some 'bike-hater' out there on a personal crusade. In retaliation, car-haters will start burning cars in HDB carparks.
High-handed? Not really. I perceived many bikers to have a 'bochap' attitude and park anywhere they please: on the pavements, car lots, at a traffic junction next to a traffic light etc etc.
They literally THINK they own the road. -
I'm afraid so. Town councils are delegated the power to maintain the estate in various forms.
However, the degree to which the jurisdiction is imposed is different for various town councils.
Personally, I am fine with a few motorcycles on the void deck and don't notice them most of the time. The issue is when nothing is done and this is abused to the extent that void decks becomes a parking lot.
By the time motorcycles are parked outside the lift door, we would take notice and town councils will have a busy time.

For motorbike riders, they want to save parking fees so they park their bike on pavement.

The fact that owning a vehicle in Singapore is exhorbitant is acknowledged and that includes parking. For motorcyles parking at void deck, it is of course illegal.Another more important point is they might pose a risk to ppl esp children. -

The main problem for motorcylce to park at pavement is they pose a risk to ppl.But I see them riding cautiously on pavements.So I suppose no accident happen.Sure, it is illegal and it is wrong especially they pose a risk to ppl.
But for bicycle parking at undesignated place,they don't cause much problem. -

If its bicycles, i think a majority are abandoned,till when they get damaged or stolen, then the owners kpkb, if not its left there to rot.

You are right to feel angry.
They should have worded the notice with more sensitivity
"Dear Sir or Madam,
Your bicycle is parked at an undesignated place
Please park your bicycle at the bicycle rack provided for your convenience, and at a cost to the residents.
If you fail to remove your bicycle within 14 days from the date of this notice, we will remove it to the rubbish dump.
You can claim it from there FOC*.

Please bring documents as proof of ownership. -
I agree that the bicycle should be removed and a fine should be imposed. If it is not claimed within a particular time, it should be auctioned off.

The cyclist parked the bicycle there to go to a public library nearby.

What does that got to do with anything? If it is illegal parking, the cyclist should be fined. Ppl are selfish or foolishly ahere to the rule.
Most securtiy guards don't allow bicycles to park in their primises.But if they park JUST outside their boudaries of the primises,they don't bother. -

Who r the cause of increase in pple riding bicycle? I see a decrease in bicycle a few year ago, but after public transport fare increase year after year, peasant switch back to bicycle esp student, old man & auntie, even middle age man. Dun forget, construction workers (mostly foreigners) etc oso ride bicycle. If they dun cause much problem, I dun see it as a problem. I do not want see an increase in burden of these poor old peasants. Especially if someone imposed tax etc on them. If they r rich like MP, who want to ride bicycle?

The TS mentioned about Town Council staff being high-handed .. yes, I agree .. I remember some time ago I posted in this forums that my town council did not clear my area everyday.. in fact for over a month, but they never failed to deduct conservancy charges in time ... I protested and refused to pay, they came knocking on my door.. They even got the cheek to say the law is provided that they are empowered to collect the charges which I must pay. They sent a lawyer letter to me and I lan lan pay up.. mean time the area was still not clean ... in fact now also never see them come sweep the my area for two weeks leow .. how I know I drop a flyer on the pavement and it is still not clear ...
