During this meaningful Yellow Ribbon Fair day, 2 september 07, instead of doing something meaningful to his life and others lives, Andrew Yap was worshiping his computer spreading on the internet his fear of the dictator. Worse, he called these ex-convicts "drunkards and gangsters". What an unfeeling person.
SINGAPORE: Some ten thousand people put on their walking shoes and hit the street in support of former prison inmates Sunday morning.
The 3.5-kilometre walk at Pasir Ris Town Park was organised by the Yellow Ribbon Project to foster public support and acceptance of ex-offenders.
Former drug addict Simon Neo was in and out of prison before converting to Christianity.
"I thought drugs can help me forget all my problems and worries,” he said. But when he became hooked, drugs only brought him pain.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wanted to change people's hearts and minds about ex-offenders who had taken a second chance to turn their lives around.
"If you have made a mistake, if you have offended, then there has to be punishment. But if you have taken the punishment and you are prepared to correct yourself and make good and come back onto the right path - if you make the effort, we should give you the second chance," said PM Lee.
There was also a fair at Prison Link Changi Centre that showcased how ex-offenders and ex-inmates are reintegrating into society.
A book of short stories and poems by inmates was launched as well. - CNA/ac -

If you have made a mistake, if you have offended, then there has to be punishment. But if you have taken the punishment and you are prepared to correct yourself and make good and come back onto the right path - if you make the effort, we should give you the second chance. -LHL
How come some ministers have made mistakes, and proven to be neglected in his job that had offended the trust of people, and there was no punishment? A law for commoner and another law for ministers? -

I suggest Jayakumar for making veiled threats recently against Silvia Lim for simply asking them to account themselves in parliament. In parliament, mind you. Singaporeans must not allow such barbaric behavior to go unanswered. Let's build a gracious, gentlemanly society starting with all the weak people ganging up against the barbarians.

Of course not me or it will never work. Human society is so much better than ape societies because in the ape society, the strongest win because the weak do not know how to gang up against the bullies of ape society. Well, if its not you then deep inside us, we have to convince ourselves, whether or not we have read this thread. If you ask me, i don't suscribe to the idea at all. To vote off somebody by consensus doesn't make sense. In the name of increased accountability, to vote off somebody so that the opposition can win without merit doesn't make sense. To vote off somebody because of "veiled threats" to a "weaker parliamentarian" does not make sense. That aside, i like sylvia. Think we should let the opposition do their work.

I find it strange that you think that stopping brutish behavior at the top level of society "does not make sense". I find it strange that you do not think making them accountable for their actions "does not make sense". That the opposition wins as a result of demanding better accountability and transparency from them is an unavoidable but acceptable by product/side effect.

Make PAP accountable without getting rid of them? The positions of president, judges and attorney general should remain independence for maintaining the role of checks and balances. It must never be appointed by prime minister or any party members to remain impartial.
In order to make PAP fully accountable. Judges, attorney general and ISD should be reporting to president not PM(PAP) so that the audit and the judgement process can be kept independence.
Constitution also have to set limit to maximum number of positions a person can hold. (e.g If you want to hold PM position you can't hold finiancial minister position.) There is one more main concern of Singaporeans Temasek holding. It should be President to decide who should headed as the steering comittee not by Lee to Lee related people. (Of course also not president related people and kins to remain impartial).
To enable the above to happen, the constitution is required to make such changes to make PAP feel accountable without needing to vote them out totally. -
