Originally posted by maven2:Gazelle. I totally agree with you. You cannot beat people's power. But you can put laws in place to prevent people from being able to have power for a long long time.
You can start with:
1. Creating a system that does not give them equal opportunity to get a rally space.
2. You can give them less TV airtime.
3. Less AND/OR biased press coverage.
4. Threaten them into submission.
5. Don't let them assemble for peaceful demonstrations.
6. Sue the only potential candidates -> Get rid of them and Scare others.
7. Make them put a 10k bond to run for elections.
8. Dig up the dirt on their past mistakes and make them bogeymen.
9. Create a system where you must have as many opposition members as the current government to contest in GRCs. And then when they meet that number, increase the number of candidates.
10. Keep redrawing the GRC boundaries where you know they have a weaker base to become bigger. And then require that they match the large number of candidates to go against them.
11. Blackmail them into not getting lift upgrading if they don't vote you.
12. With all the above and with other perks and bonuses you can make them into sheep. Threaten them with sure failure. It's psychological warfare.
It's actually quite easy to prevent the people from having power.
The only way then to wrest control would to take the government by a coup or force. But that would result in unnecessary bloodshed and would set the country backwards. Which none of us want. Not even the opposition.
We love Singapore too much to do that.
I am already talking to one.Originally posted by de_middle:then please kindly use it![]()

The positions of president, judges and attorney general should remain independence for maintaining the role of checks and balances. It must never be appointed by prime minister or any party members to remain impartial.
Andrew said the ex-convicts are "drunkards and gangsters". Such condescending attitude shows the wolf in sheep skin in you, Andrew.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:You love to make stupid statements don't you?
Those drunkards and gangsters that happen to be there to support their friends are "useful" people? People that go, people that attend are all useful people?
Whether a person is useful or useless depends on whether or not he attended the yellow ribbon project outing?
LHL is a useful person just because he showed up? The fact that he and his father keep on taking public money can be forgotten because he attended the yellow ribbon project outing?
According to you LKY is a useless person because he did not turn up even though he is taking so much of public funds?

What an exceptionally stupid statement.
I said, just because people attend, even when "drunkards and gangsters" attend, that automatically makes them "useful" people, to you? Even "drunkards and gangsters" are useful people just because they attend? Can you be certain that no "drunkards and gangsters" attend?Originally posted by Daddy!!:Andrew said the ex-convicts are "drunkards and gangsters". Whenever Gazelle uses his/her head, I will fully support!Originally posted by Gazelle:Andrew, you are one classic example of why many singapore opposition end up being sued by our ministers for defamation.
If you think you are not and you are smart, I suggest that you back up your statement with facts and figures and not some childish story to feed the sheep in this forum.

That doesn't mean you have to pay them absurdly high salaries. When you overpaid them, you may cause them to pay more attention to how to spend than how to serve the people. Isn't it?Originally posted by uhbaden:I wish some ppl will grow up and open their minds more broadly then to start blasting our government.
