  PAP always say that opposition parties appear only when elections beckon?
  
  No televised coverage, no newspaper reports.......and even reject the permit for a mere cycling event, no wonder.
  
  Just look at the number of views on this youtube - 303 total.

  They have never allowed the oppositions to be involved in any activites other than during election campaign. PAP treats them like criminal.

  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the President's job to act as the check and balance of the government? That's why the President was given those powers.
  
  I believe the late President Ong actually did that, and in the end fell out of favour with the government?
  
  Because seriously, if the President doesn't do it, the opposition are powerless and there'll be no checks in place.

  Isn't it the job of the Constitution to safeguard the interests of a nation's citizenry? In which case, shouldn't the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary be independent?
  
  That said, when you have got the same bunch of tyrants filling all 3 branches of government, what checks and balance can you reasonably expect?

  I'm not too sure how much powers the President has. But I'm pretty sure if he went up against PAP, he'd suddenly be found an alcoholic and threatened with a motion to be ousted.

  At a WP conference before the 2006 GE, this was asked by a journalist who quoted Teo Chee Hean's same remarks.
  
  Sylvia Lim replied that the PAP grassroots had apparently been collecting information of WP activities for the last 5 years (2001 - 2006) for analysis purpose and how were they to do so if WP was inactive. Hence, it was odd for Teo to make such remarks when the PAP's action showed otherwise.

  Under the Westminster model, the Judiciary is kept independent while the Executive and Legislative branches draw from each other.
  
  The only model that i know of that keeps all three strictly seperate is the Presidential model, the ones the Americans have. It's been proven that it does not work.
  
  Still, yes, the Constitution is supposed to protect the interests os the nation's citizens, which is why i'm quite surprised that Constitutional Amendments can be done without referenda.
  
  But, I think it's unfair to call them tyrants. They have done a reasonably good job, but I'd just like to see some kind of check or balance there to give me peace of mind that they have to be accountable for what they do.
