The guy said this: "I was taught all kinds of things, but no one has ever taught me what to do in a relationship."
I was nearly mad when I heard that, but come to think of it, some things can never be taught. Critical thinking skills are never taught... there may be steps to follow, but that's all you can do. Whether you are able to think critically is another issue.

So what's wrong with our textbooks?Originally posted by Jontst78:What they teach in school?
In case you're wondering what they're teaching our kids in school about Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the PAP, take a look at this.
One textbook for GCE O-level students and approved by the Ministry of Education started off thus:
Unless they present the wrong historical facts, there is really nothing to argue about.Well the textbooks never teach Britain's strategy of pushing Nazi Germany eastwards to destroy the Soviet Union; they teach a bullshit version instead.
There are many versions, some more popular than others. The only people who are "taught" all versions are the researchers, who actually self-taught reading from papers and historical sources.Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:Well the textbooks never teach Britain's strategy of pushing Nazi Germany eastwards to destroy the Soviet Union; they teach a bullshit version instead.
School textbooks should teach proper history to youngsters.

The problem is that the questions presented here have hardly any factual basis. It's all the government's opinion of themselves and they expect you to think the same.Originally posted by Icemoon:So what's wrong with our textbooks?

Just like the role of the opposition is to "oppose" government policies in parliament, the role of any government-approved textbook is to educate the students from the government point of view.
Isn't this what OUR SCHOOLS are teaching us .. to critically evaluate a source? In recent years, subjects like history and SS have steered away from essay-type questions to source-based questions.
The question is:Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:
That's a glaring mistake. Ever since when is this correct? LKY has never said (I don't recall such things being taught to me) he wrote our national pledge.
Praise the Lord for failing your mid term exam for you have learned an important lesson....on how to differentiate fact from fiction.Originally posted by sircool:i cant stand SS ... for my prelims ... all the talked about (for the source based questions ) was how Singapore's government was supporting the elderly ... how much they were doing for them .. and how much moeny it cost them .. and they asked questions like ...Singapore's government supports the elderly in singapore.. how far do u agree with this statement .. GOD ! u cant disagree ... and there is not point fighting back .. for my mid years, they talked about how not corrupted singapore is ... and its ranked the third or forth least corrupted in the world .. i challenged by saying that singapore's government IS corrupt and that if they werent, we would be the no 1 on that list ...
needless to say i failed my mid years -.-
