The lawyer didn't do anything wrong. In any court of law (at least, in civilised societies where the rule of law reigns), any ambiguity not clearly established would result, de facto, in the benefit of the doubt being given to the defendant. As a matter of fact, the only amazing farce that has arisen from this entire episode stems from the fact that the defence counsel even needs to point out the obvious ambiguity to the bench, only to see the judge (effectively a puppet in a politicised judiciary) - in spite of his excessive legal training and experience - dismiss the argument so hastily.Originally posted by mancha:CSJ should not pay his lawyer.
Talk so much, and then say CSJ should be given the benefit of the doubt.
If I was in the gallery, I would laugh out loud, HAH HAH HAH HAH
The prosecution has the more difficult job of proving beyond reasonable doubt that he is guilty.
The defence job is to show that there is a chance that he is not guilty.
After talking for 1 hour, he says CSJ should be given the benefit of the doubt, because CSJ might be confused, ha! The lawyer is not worth his fee, however small. He should state confidently, or however weakly, that CSJ is not guilty. To ask for the benefit of the doubt is a clear give away that he has no defence. Anyway, it is for the judge to give him the benefit of the doubt.
No wonder the judge dismiss his elaborate presentation in a few seconds.
That's how lawyers who BS are treated.
Ya you are right.Originally posted by walesa:The lawyer didn't do anything wrong. ....

The truth is - the Judge took a few seconds to decide.
The decision was a foregone conclusion, the rest was all part of the wayang-kulit show.
The Judge hit the headlines for dispensing a six-month jail sentence for the crime of oral sex.

It's obvious, if anything, the shambles known as a trial (which, in truth, is pretty much a politicised theatre) is nothing more than a facade which effectively masks another novelty - this regime having the most expensive theatre in the world in the form of a court of law.
I suppose this must be another wonderful demonstration of how the state and party are inseperable entities when state apparatus could be so freely utilised as a tool of oppression...
People like him knows exactly what they are doing... there is no need to feel sorry for him. This is his calling. The "suffering" is nothing. This is not something that the average human can understand. Only those that are self actualized will understand how and why Dr Chee can accept abuse like this and take it so serenely.Originally posted by de_middle:poor fella
