What President Bush and his wife (REALLY) thinks of the Singapore dictators (but did not say):
"I want them to know that the rest of the world does condemn these actions of the ...... government, the harassment and jailing of political peaceful demonstrators, " Mrs. Bush said. "All these demonstrators want is for the government to be responsive to them. "
"It's inexcusable that we've got this kind of tyrannical behaviour in Asia," he said at a joint news conference with Australian Prime Minister John Howard ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
"It's inexcusable that people who march for freedom are then treated (this way) by a repressive state. And those of us who live in the comfort of a free society need to speak out about these kinds of human rights abuses."
No wonder that one was attacking Bush in these forums.

I would think that the PAP government themselves would have made him the offer to go anywhere in the world just to get rid of him. Political asylum is not what he wants, I think. It is his calling to change the state from a repressive one to an accountable and transparent one.
It was easy to change the NKF to become accountable and transparent but you need martyrs like him to change a tyrannical regime. -

Dr Chee, is using a technique that philosophers like Aristotle used, and that is to push the "idea" (in this case, illicit laws and the illicit PAP actions) as far as it can go to understand the full consequences of the ideas (and in this case, expose the full consequences of the illicit laws and the illicit PAP actions).

Hitler and Stalin sent their opponents to labour camps. While here, people like CSJ are made bankrupt and sent to prison. They could stretch the line a little further.

When a person is in power, there is no knowing what they will do next to you.

But singaporeans are cultured differently. We have never experienced a 100% western civilisation in terms of democracy. To be fair, we have our own democracy, which I also hope to see improvement.
Singaporeans generally could not really appreciate or understand Chee's acts. Myself included. We think that he is almost like crazy.
But as a human being who respect all views and prefer that all views be heard and debated, I also have some respect for Chee. He is definitely not perfect and so is everyone in the world. But he is contributing to singapore in his own way and only history can judge him.
Singapore will forever remain what it is and even grow to become more of what it is today, like it or not unless....
People like Chee seems to be tackling the problem in an ineffective way.
I would think to be more fruitful, both sides need to be able to sit on the table and have a nice discussion with maybe the whole world in a civilised manner. When the whole world is watching, both sides have to be on their toes. I know, this sounds naive and unrealistic but I appologise. I am not a great speaker nor bombastic one. I hope you get what I mean.

edited to add: other than you seem to approve of your government's barbaric behavior and taking Singaporeans money without reservations as long as it does not affect commerce. In fact if they convert all Singaporeans into their slaves, commerce will improve even more. You want to be a slave, that is your prerogative.

China is communist country where Chinese people dont have a say in politics. Their PLA controls everything. People get rounded up and get shot like nobody's business. Farmers got chasen out of their land by greedy and politicallypowerful property developers etc. Yet western democracies invested so much in China that China gets to be prosperous.
My question to your simplistic mind is this : To the western democracies, which is more important, ideology or profits, specifically democracy or capitalism ?
The fact that China is made more properous by foreign direct investments teaches us that capitalism dominates over democracy, profits dominates ideology. -
