What do you expect the opposition party to do given their number of seat (just 1) in parliament? Even if they come up with any feasible proposal, you think the pap mp will support it?
Just like potong pasir, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan rejected Mr Chiam See Tong request for $80m upgrading funds (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/216177/1/.html). This incident clearly show that the gov (pap) do not support any proposal from the opposition, they will have to finance it themselves which is of course impossible. -

i think we should give some credit to PAP lah..

i think some form of control is still healthy as we are still unable to think independently on our own.
Imagine without the strict control, some crazy kid will just get a gun and shoot at everyone at his or her school....

Hong Kong (without natural resources) a country with the same circumstances as Singapore thrive as a British colony.
Singapore might have had more domestic industries like Hong Kong if not for the benevolent fascist's reliance on external foreign direct investments.
Whether a country succeeds or fail, alot of the conditions depend on the characteristics of the people rather than just the leaders. Compare the growth Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and more recently China with those of Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. -

I'm in no position to do that. There is no evidence from both sides of the causeway that we acceded to their demands. In fact Mahathir has problems with Badawi for not pushing us as hard. At the height of it, we announced that we had developed Newater. We offered a slight increase in price but the Malaysians felt insulted by the offer. That was it, until today there is no agreement. Both Singapore and Malaysia did not reach an agreement over Pedra Branca and the case is referred to the ICJ for arbitration. -

Hong Kong had been a British colony for over a century and its successes, for large parts, are very much the work of the Brits. Look at Hong Kong on 30th June 1997 and try telling me Hong Kong's prosperity trails this regime's at that time.
If you've any more doubts to the source of Hong Kong's success, why not compare Hong Kong's economy on 30th June 1997 to Macau's economy on 18th December 1999? After all, both Hong Kong and Macau are supposed to have the backing of China, don't they? -

The title asks to imagine life without PAP.
To me, its how good and capable a leader or team is. the name is only secondary. Illustration in point, all capable men left a party to join a new party. Will this new young party have no credibility having the talents from the old party?
I mean, this question requires commonsense to answer.

My stand is it can be any party. Can even be party XYZ. as long as its my choice and the People's choice. Upon victory and mandate given, this party will have all the resources to mobilise and to attract the best money can buy or some may even work for free due to love and passion for the job and mentality to sacrifice and even die for the country if needed or called upon to do so, just kidding. main point. Can be any party. I really dun mind. As long as it wins mandate given automatically. -

One party= no interference=fast decisions=smooth transition=efficiency=attract investors = $$$$$$$$$ = more casinos, racing tracks, view blocking ferris wheel, international conferences, ability to buy advanced equipment and medicine= jobs outnumber people
Malaysia
Multiple party+many union= many objections= hard to pass law=chaos
