I do agree to certain extent tt PAP probably thinks tt we are reliant on them.
I wouldnt mind competent opposition.
However, there isnt any comparable alternatives.
So while there isnt any, we'll juz still stick to PAP. -
Hong Kong has nothing similar or equal to the paternalistic rule of the PAP, nor the same level of purposeful interference in the lives of the people, nor the highly paid Ministers costing the State Treasury an annual sum of MILLIONS of DOLLARS - that would have helped to provide free Medical Insurance for the Aged and the Destitutes.
Yet, Hong Kong has been able to meet the competition from the best that a Globalised World has thrown at them, and create a social system that can support the Aged, the Sick and the Destitutes.
If we need to ''imagine life without PAP'' - try looking at being as dynamic as Hong Kong can be. -

This is the second time in three years that Singapore posted the highest growth globally in the annual World Wealth Report compiled by Merrill Lynch and research firm Capgemini which surveyed 71 countries.

If your warped logic is anything to go by, am I supposed to believe the French economy is actually more dire than Malaysia and Taiwan's given its higher rate of unemployment? So what do the unemployment stats really paint with regard to the health of a nation's economy and a country's living standards(and by extension, the wellbeing of a citizenry as a collective entity)? -

But the reality is all successful and huge companies started small or tiny.
Its not whether is there Competent person.
Competent person exist else singapore has no future and if no new competent persons exist, singapore will not have any future tomorrow.
Commonsense tells us that there are many competent people out there.
There are many who are in business or corporates or migrated.
Thus, its clear, to me at least, the question of whether there is competent people or even enough competent people is IRRELEVANT.
A successful large company of today cannot have existed without having started out as a small or tiny company with only a few good men or even just 1 man. Competent ones will come when they see there is future. Really competent geniuses are self-motivated. They start a company by themselves without any manual of how-to-succeed. They are a cut above the competent followers who come later. Confidence is the key. -
