This is not going to be the first case, and definitely not going to be the last case. What happen if spend money upgrade but the same thing still happen? You are going to see the industrial going to be replaced by foreign workers. Cheap labour is first priority for most employers

The problem with upgrading is that seldom employer will tolerate it especially if u work in a factory. If they want u to do OT n u refuse they can easily replace u. This apply to many blue collar job.
Like what my father always say solve the most pressing problem first. U either upgrade yrself or work to feed yrself. Certainly ppl will choose the later and try to solve the pressing issue when the time comes.
experience in the developed countries shows that globalisation has caused job loss for both the blue and white collar workers. the govt of these countries usually have to provide a safety net for their jobless while they try to create more jobs. -
when pple say education papers are not everything, I would like them to think again now.
