A group of 8 young people who wanted to protest against local anime distributor Odex's legal actions decided to stage a protest... with their toys... at *Scape, a youth park. The idea was to stage a demonstration with their toys and do a photo shoot at *Scape (Slogan for the youth park: Feel the Space. Fill the Space).
so, how could it possibly that there are 8 who come out with banners and protest messages and assembled in group of 8 in Youth Park?
this is not possible to me.
I thus wonder what gave these young people the powers to do so.
and did they get in jail or get court sentence?
and then recently the black saturday.
I see some pattern emerging. What is the root.? -
the kiddy downloaders aged <18 are confirmed kiasee ones

also, from the quote you have, it seems that they are using their toys to stage the protest, rather than themselves. whether the prosecution wants to go after them is their own business. -
in sg, most young people are the all talk, no action ones, the ones protesting are rare.

Naturally it's not anything good to swallow but at the end of the day, they have to admit who's really the one at fault - THEMSELVES. Yes, they can get angry and upset, but they have no right to protest. -

ODEX does not represent the judiciary system of singapore...
BUT what ODEX has done is definitely WRONG in they eyes of the people though it remains to be seen if what they did is UNLAWFUL in singapore. (though some newspaper report seems to indicate so). -
by the way... isnt the champion against piracy gonna appeal agains the PACNET ruling??
i believe the 14 days is coming to an end soon... if not over??

To protest for their rights, I don't see any wrong. To protest because they downloaded anime regardless of whether ODEX is the exclusive licensee, that would be wrong.
If you have read the thread in Club Otaku... you would have found out how absurd things are. 40 odd pages + some research on the Net will take you about 2 days to digest. -
Not sure if ODEX has committed "Extortion" in section 383 of the Penal Code.
The illustration given by the Penal Code is about threat of defamation suit, whereas ODEX has threatened reporting their case to police if they don't pay up a certain amount of money. Sounds more or less an extortion to me.
I think the downloaders have committed a wrongful act in a civil case, but that doesn't mean it gives the right to ODEX to extort money from these kids.

Whoever intentionally puts any person in fear of any injury to that person or to any other, and thereby dishonestly induces the person so put in fear to deliver to any person any property or valuable security, or anything signed or sealed which may be converted into a valuable security, commits “extortion”.

if i get the letter and i "protest", i wont be protesting about what i did wrong cos thats illegal.. but i WILL be upset over WHO sent me the letter, the basis on which the letter was sent, where my money goes to, and WHY THE HECK do i have to buy an inferior original product when the free superior product is better?!

heard on the coffee shop floor........ the authorities are "interested" in the extortion allegations.......
Hope they can find the evidence to prosecute the blood-suckers in Court......the victims should come forward to help the police....... -
