I am shocked to learn an ex-raffles JC student would kill himself cos he doesn't match up to the success that his peers had achieved.
I can tell you immediately why ex-raffles JC attempted to kill himself in a logical manner.
1- Nobody would care if he kill himself, In singaporean society, the Ex-raffles JC student are considered a weak monkey that deserved to die. I can guarantee to you that if the ex-raffles JC student died, and if he died an unsuccessful man, then everyone would say he deserve it.
That is what is the norm in singaporean society as in the elite case.
No body gives a dam-n.
2- The guy is immature as a baby. When he measured his life with success achieved by his peers. I can honestly tell you that 1 of the world most successful man do have the highest education. The world is FREEPLAY once you graduated from School.
3- Singaporeans discriminate, demonlise every single person that they do not like.
I dun really know/understand how can people be nobody when he is known to his parents and his friends.

It's just interesting that people like to link elitism and Raffles together, when there are just as many good schools, or even exceptional students in other JCs.
What I would call elitist behaviour would be: "I'm a student from blah blah blah school, you are not, therefore I'm more right than you are." How many times have you heard this? When it comes to ability, it doesn't matter which school you come from.
The problem is some people just cannot accept that others are from so and so school. My question is... why not?! At the end of the day, everyone comes out with a university degree and come out slogging while paying all the high taxes. At the end of the day, we are all Singaporeans.
Seriously, it doesn't mean anything even if you graduate from any top JCs, or from any top Unis. Life is much more than that, yet some people just do not have the necessary EQ to understand this simple reasoning.
I have never given disrespect to anyone from a different school, nor extra respect for someone from a better school. It just doesn't make sense. -
To add on, wouldn't the PAP be considered a party with extremely elitist behaviour? And which school did our dear PM graduate from?

Why criticise RJC? If you can't compete with its students on their terms, do something else. We are all not equally good at studies. RJC students are the academic elites. Sports School students are the athletic elites. Arts School students will be the arts elite.
We are a meritocratic society. These students got good grades by their own merit. If you work hard at what you're good at, you can be an elite too. If you just can't take it that somebody will be better than you are, then you are a loser, like that ex-RJC student who couldn't take the pressure. -

seriously what is this thread all about, though i hate elites as well, and i love to bash those elite, but then again, this thread is rather meaningless it doesn't contribute anything to this forum, and we hate elites as they have make our life miserable, but now, we are talking about a school and their students, if those rjc students have nothing to do with the current situation that we are facing
we hate the PAP ways of passing a bills, and just so happens that their background are those elite school... so, should we condemn the rest of the students as well?
the reason why i hate elites is very simple, they are arrogant and doesn't know what the common folks are suffering, living high up in the ivory tower, but they fails to understand, it is the common folks that are putting them into power and we are the one who voted them into power, it is their attitude and behavior that pissed me off, but just because someone comes from a good background of education, and enjoy success, it only means that he has earn it through his/her hard work and if he is humble or meek, i have no qualm about him/her
we shouldn't have condemn all those who comes from elite school and deem them as scum of singapore, but rather, it is their behavior and attitude, is what deem them in the common eyes of the public
as to that ex-Rafflesian who tied to kill myself =GG for having a mentality that elites will gain success in the real world automatic, the less elites that exist in singapore, the more peaceful and harmonious, it will be
i don't pity any elite that fails in life, but rather i may even mock at them, for failing in life, and spend so much money on such 'excellent' education.
Not all elites are bad.......
