For goodness sake, they are freaking sitting on a earthquake zone!
Lets not mention the "capability" of the government, an earthquake of the scale similar to this morning's shockwave will send any "capability" outa space.

My FYP is on converting vibrations to electrical energy for biomedical usage. Means very tiny devices.
Wonder if can implement on a great scale, such that it can capture the mechanical energy from the earthquake zone and convert into electricity. It would be clean! And most importantly, if spoilt, won't cause any disaster. But it would require a combination of mechanical and electrical engineers geniuses to come out with a hard-to-be-destroyed-by-earthquakes structure to do that -
if they can build one which will ride out earthquakes, it would be good...
all you have to do is to look at China now.. highly dangerous levels of smog, rivers poisoned, illegal powerstations..
that's the cost of not going nuclear for indonesia.. and the cost to the rest of the region for not helping them... -

Hmm...given Indonesia's vast lands, can't they implement what Britain did back in the days of the empire?
Eg: (for internal consumption)
Province A produces grain
Province B produce textiles
Province C is the trading center
...and so on...
This way they can relocate those dangerous Nuclear power plants to a safer island away from the volcano zone and still have their cake. Just don't put them on Batam or Bintan.

True lah, the Indons have done their maths.
The cost of producing energy.
As a "poor" country, they need to find cheaper ways to produce energy.
A nuclear plant would involve great initial cost, but would produce cheaper energy in the long run, than fossil fuel generators.
Our concern is the safety aspect, ala Chernobyl -
