But seriously, i dun think most of the cyclists will care.Originally posted by khali:It is a traffic offence for cyclists to cycle on pavements and walkways.
My place too.. this family will get into the lift at 11th floor and go up to where I stay ( 15th ). No one can go in. They know if they press down only, they will not able to go in since there will be people around. Everytime met them, they will take a much longer time to use the lift .. and they will like one day can meet them three four times ... sigh ... I agree, plain selfishness ...Originally posted by sLeEpWaLkErInG:But seriously, i dun think most of the cyclists will care.
Yesterday night i notice a father trying to get his 3 children on bicycle in a lift, but the lift keep on jamming cos one of the bicycle wheel was jamming the door, we were outside waiting for the other lift to come but have to wait for his lift to close b4 we can press the button again...
This ordeal last for like 5mins... the other residents was looking at his drama.
Plain selfishness, i guess?
NO when you ask government to implement any rules, there will be charges .....Originally posted by sgdiehard:While driving very often i had to break suddenly to avoid cyclists who swerve in front of me to avoid hitting some pedestrians standing at the road side. It seems these cylists never know they need to slow down, watch behind, give signal before they change lane, as a courtesy and respect to other road users.
They also never realise that they are sharing the lane with other motorists and they also need to observe traffic rules, and I think so far no cyclist has ever been booked for traffic offence.
What is worse they never seem to realise that when they hit a car or a car hit them, it is their body against metal, .... or they assume that cars should always give way to them, but they never pay road tax.
So we should make all bicycles fitted with rear mirror, and left right signal, cyclists should all take some kind of highway code, wear the proper protective gear (you see only the angmoh in Singapore wear protective gear when cycle, the local don't), and pay road tax.
I think cyclists should treasure the freedom we have now, observe traffic rule, show courtesy and respect to other road users, have some self awareness about how frigile we are on a bicycle, and enjoy the fun of cycling.
Asking government to implement any rules would just give some anti government people here reasons to whine at the government again.
I agree... I hated those taxi drivers most on the road. They either go very fast, cutting without due care during the peak or they simple go very slow when and stopped suddenly without warning ... Whenever and where ever possible, I don't give way to them ..Originally posted by weiqimun:i guess tolerence and patience is the key.....
ideally, there shld be lanes for cyclists, but it is not practical in land/road scarce sinkapore.
drivers who ride (m/bike or b/bike) will appreciate the danger these cyclists are in and tend to be a bit more careful when encountering one. i also do both, and i am generally more patient towards cyclist and bikers.
on the other hand, bikers/cyclist needs to practice good riding habits. there are a handful of bad apples who are reckless. bike tt swerve unnecessarily sometimes begs to be hit. In US, bikers are generally road abiding. in traffic jams, most dun zig zag like we do. they stop behind cars, behaving just like drivers. tt's why drivers gives them as much respect.
unfortunately, in sgp, both drivers and bikers/cyclists do not have the mutual respects for each other. they blame one another in accidents.
personally, i detest taxi drivers the most. they are most rude in their driving, and barge ahead regardless. they may be tired, but it's no excuse.....
When the minister of state explained about the trial about cycling on pavement in Tampinese. She just mentioned there is a law which says a cyclist who rides dangerously on pavement is an offence. The offence can be compounded with $20 fine. That means cycling on pavement is not a crime but a cylist who cycles on pavement and cause danger to ppl is.Originally posted by mancha:Not yet, official stand is cycling on pavement is illegal.
Stated by Ministers, Traffic Police, Police.
Except part of Tampines, where there is an experiment going on now.

I ever tried. But it is almost impossible as the lift door is rather narrow and the fact that there are already two bicyles in the lift with the third one trying to get it, there is no room for you to offer any help ...Originally posted by Gun:
Did anyone at the lift landing step forward and assist the father when he struggled with the bike wth 3 kids in troll ?
I am not suggesting anything, but in some situation, it takes patience and common sense.
agree x 2! the cyclists r inconsiderate in the 1st place! it is as if the pedestian pathway belong to them! government n traffic police should impose rule dat cyclists r only allow to walk their bicycle on the pathway.Originally posted by pierre^^:i am against riding on pavement by cyclist

I don't agree.Originally posted by PRP:I feel it is uncomfortable & dangerous to ride on roads because bicycle is so light. If a cyclist who rides in slow speed should cycle on road. Then pedestrains can walk besides the road too.I believe cyclists & pedestrains should share the use of pavement is a better idea.
Originally posted by PRP:There's already a rule, but it only covers cyclists who add a motor on their bicycles.
Cyclists who ride on road should wear helmet like m/cyclist,shoudn't they?Should there be a new rule to enforce it?
Sadly, it'll be rendered futile by the many idiots who don't stick to their designated lanes. They can be seen especially at East Coast Park and Bishan Park.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:I rather they cycle on the road than on pavement. If they insist on pavements to be shared, then I would prefer it to be done like the parks. One lane for cyclist, one lane for pedestrians and roller bladers.
