S$1mio can be translated to millions of Indonesian rupiahs, Indian rupees, Thai bahts, Filippino pesos, Chinese remimbi, Vietnamese dongs - and I can afford to travel and live there like a king, emperor or maharajah. Why do I want to go to OZ for? And to work there as 2nd class citizen?Originally posted by Daddy!!:At current market prices, S$1mio translates to only AUD750K which can afford only a small appartment (AUD500K) with security guards. The balance AUD250K is to buffer the uncertainty in migration.
So even with S$1mio, one has to continue working and hardly afford to live a carefree life traveling around the world. Besides, not working isn't a good life style for a young couple too.
the reason is I am english educated and i feel comfortable in english speaking environment.Originally posted by TheGoodEarth:S$1mio can be translated to millions of Indonesian rupiahs, Indian rupees, Thai bahts, Filippino pesos, Chinese remimbi, Vietnamese dongs - and I can afford to travel and live there like a king, emperor or maharajah. hey i thought u were from spain? how come u knew so much about austrlia!?Originally posted by reyes:if u dont have 1 million. there is 2 way u can go.
1. skills migration.
if your skills are require in australia then you can opt to work there at first and then apply. do note that depends on which part of australia u intend to move.
coz skills requirement in different states could be different.
eg. in perth and darwin, a degree in electronics engineering probably cant get u any good job. but if are a car mechanicm, plumber, you did be surprise that you are in demand!!!
2. spouse migration. get a australia wife. if you dont mind, you can married ah Bo! aboriginals. just kidding!!.
she can apply for you, and i think its the easiest!!
I did it that way.Originally posted by sghomosapien:If your parents want to move to Australia, you need to have 50% or more of your siblings to be either PRs or citizens of Australia. You may choose to pay the Aussie government around AUD $30000 to get 1 of your parents over after they have met the 1st criteria. If not, they can wait in the waiting list until they die and they may not get their turn.
This is what my mum plans to do. My sister is already a citizen of Australia. Once I apply and get my PR, my mum will be eligible to be sponsored to live in Australia very quickly if she is willing to pay that $30 K.
Yes it costs 500k for a small apartment if you decide to buy in Double bay or Toorak - the places where the extremely rich live.Originally posted by Daddy!!:At current market prices, S$1mio translates to only AUD750K which can afford only a small appartment (AUD500K) with security guards. 1.Congra,mate!What is the current mortgage interest rate?Originally posted by fymk:Yes it costs 500k for a small apartment if you decide to buy in Double bay or Toorak - the places where the extremely rich live.
Otherwise 250k-350k is enough to secure an apartment of at least 68 sqm size in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane , 0.5- 1 km from the CBD.
I came to Australia without much money and now I am ok financially (not a millionaire tho) . So if you want to play extremely safe - go save your 1 million .
Looking at your posts, it seems that you have already found what you think to be the answer, so why bother wasting time asking this question?Originally posted by Daddy!!:Does anyone have any comment on this topic?

Yup...I emigrated as a skilled migrant and am now running my own business.;...basically I went thru an agent and costs me $5,000 but that was 7 years ago...I believe its cheaper now...say 2-3KOriginally posted by reddressman:Basically, my little understanding is, if you have a skill in some kind of demand in the country, you can apply for migration as a Skilled Migrant. I think to migrate to Canada is easier than Australia. Any comments?
So, with skilled migration plan, there is no need much money except you may need to rent a place or your employer can pay for you depending on how you nego with them during contract time , and maybe the application fee or if you hire an agent to do that for you a couple of thousand sgd that all.
Best if you have a Canadian or Australian degree. More points.
Canada offers one of the cheapest university education I know. feel free to comment.
being 2nd class elsewhere is much better that being 3rd class in Sillypore....kekekeOriginally posted by TheGoodEarth:S$1mio can be translated to millions of Indonesian rupiahs, Indian rupees, Thai bahts, Filippino pesos, Chinese remimbi, Vietnamese dongs - and I can afford to travel and live there like a king, emperor or maharajah. The factsOriginally posted by Daddy!!:the problem i think as a skilled migrant without enough money would face these problems of (a) paying high rental as tenants, (b) paying high mortgage interests as owner of a house/appartment, (c) whats the outcome once hit by job uncertainty. Consider this for someone who has a family to support.
So one needs money to pay in cash a safe apartment (with porter security and private car-park) to eliminate the problems of LIVING UNDER THE BURDEN OF HIGH INTEREST RATES and a buffer to safeguard one from falling down under this burden. I guess S$1mio is JUST enough. Am i correct?
There are plenty of Asian restaurant in Canada or Australian which is successfuin selling their Asian food to the local Australian or Canadian.Originally posted by Gazelle:Selling Singapore fried rice?

Finding a job there first and then applying PR in Australia is not the way to go. Or rather not the recommended way to go, unless you have substantial savings to last you at least half a year of unemployment while job hunting there.
Its a labor law there, that an employer must give jobs first to citizens and PRs, only after being unable to find suitable person for some time, then they(the employer) can justify to the government, to permit hiring a foreigner.
The recommended way to go is to apply for PR here. Do the points test, if you think you qualify, try for an application. Do this while in Singapore. You can get it approved and receive it while being in Singapore the whole time.

Alternatively, you can use an agent. Dun get conned tho. Dun go to an agent that ask for more than 4k (excl govt fees). And go to one that is registered with the Australian immigration authority. Usually you will get a free initial consultation to check your eligibility.
Total legal and Govt fees, incl medical checks and english exam is around a little under 4k SGD. If you get an Agent, around 3k, total cost is around 7k give or take a little.
There are agents will refund 50%(or some) agent fees if your app is not approved (not due to paper work error on part of the agent). If agent makes error, make sure u get full refund.
Basically, certified technical and skilled people will get a rather high advantage. Eg plumbers, carpenter, civil engineers, IT professions, nurses, doctors, accountants, electricians and hairdressers.
My uncle who is a citizen in Sydney would say, "if you are a plumber, electrician or carpenter, you walk in" but thats a slight exaggeration of course.
