I read that many Chinese local also want to migrate to Canada n is it true cost of living in some part of Canada is lower than here?Originally posted by outsider77:applied in 2003. so tats about 3+ yrs
Talked about knowing so many things... Some people just doesn't know that in Europe, or in ang moh countries, selling Chinese food can earn quite a lot. I know this guy from Munich, he has a PhD in Chinese Literature, but it seems that he earns more opening a Chinese restaurant selling Chinese food as compared to doing any other business. Imagine having the meat ingredients around the same price as in Singapore, but after cooking it in the Chinese way, they are able to sell it for about 4 times the amount in Sg.Originally posted by will4:There are plenty of Asian restaurant in Canada or Australian which is successfuin selling their Asian food to the local Australian or Canadian.
Many Chinese national also volunteer to join the US army just to obtain the green card .
basically, if u decide the place you wanna be is in canada, the quality of life is so much sweeter. education is waived by the govt, healthcare is free except for dentals and eye check ups, high salaried employment, housing with your very own basement and garage (....and guess what? its your own house!!), very good infrastructure, welfare and human rights and not to mention the tonnes of activities that you can have while living there.Originally posted by will4:I read that many Chinese local also want to migrate to Canada n is it true cost of living in some part of Canada is lower than here?![]()
if not counting cost of living like car , house etc (which are dirt cheap compared to here), as long as you are skilled and this skill is in their list of wanted ones, you can quite possibly become a citizen there.Originally posted by Daddy!!:Does anyone have any comment on this topic?
u dont really need a million bucks just to stay in canada. just sufficient enough for you to go by until you get a job there. nevertheless you need to meet a minimum amount to bring in though.Originally posted by reddressman:if not counting cost of living like car , house etc (which are dirt cheap compared to here), as long as you are skilled and this skill is in their list of wanted ones, you can quite possibly become a citizen there.
Thus, to reply you, the answer is no money required except normal stuff like paper work fees like a few k only, and cost of living.
correction me if i the wrong.
not everyone here is prepared to change their environment and exposed to foreign cultures. even the weather is abit harsh to some people. i know through friends that some of their families or friends who went there came back due to these reasons.Originally posted by play_n_play:i went to canada a few times, really a good place for retirement or kids, but not good for young people, the pace is very slow...espcially in the small towns. but having a permanent job there, i think it is good to immigrate there.
while for australia, the discrimination is quite serious in some places...especially not good for yellows to immigrate there.
Agreed, the main concern should not be the money to migrate but adapting to the new environment. At the end of the day if you cannot adapt, you will still have to movedOriginally posted by outsider77:not everyone here is prepared to change their environment and exposed to foreign cultures. even the weather is abit harsh to some people. i know through friends that some of their families or friends who went there came back due to these reasons.
canada is definitely a good place to make a living and raise kids. and they are family oriented people. unlike singapore, where we can enjoy ourselves at the pubs and chillout all nite with your friends. canada is all about staying at home and play with kids. so it really depends on individual.
my sister just moved to sydney last february and its also beneficial for her kids. good education system and healthcare except that the people discriminate asian minorities. but not to worry, the new prime minister seems to favor asians and i think its a good start for these people.
its a good start to contact family or friends who have been staying overseas to get their own personal feedback. sometimes migrating is not always a better choice than staying in your home country.Originally posted by justcooler:Agreed, the main concern should not be the money to migrate but adapting to the new environment. One word of advise, try to get hold of singaporean friends that already migrated to the country of your interest and asked them for their opinions. Get there to take a look and feel, then decided
Another alternative is to go to a place where you are familar with..Originally posted by outsider77:its a good start to contact family or friends who have been staying overseas to get their own personal feedback. sometimes migrating is not always a better choice than staying in your home country.
so think wisely before making the move. not everyone can adapt new environment.

Thanks dude for clarifying the above.Originally posted by outsider77:u dont really need a million bucks just to stay in canada. just sufficient enough for you to go by until you get a job there. nevertheless you need to meet a minimum amount to bring in though.
as for myself, im not married and still single so my minimum requirement is only 10k.....of cos if you have more, that would better. the more family members you have with you, the more $$ you need to bring in.
there are 3 things you need to have before applying
1. patience
2. money and
3. courage

different states has different industries. like alberta, it is oil and gas driven industries. ontario is more on manufacturing. other states i'm not so sure. so it really depends on the place you intend to go.
engineers in alberta can easily earn themselves 50k - 90k a year. unlike engineers in sg is paid a fraction of tat. as for tax, if u look at it is the same as your CPF contribution. and better stil the canadian govt will give you pensions when you retire so you dont have to worry about it.

where are u staying now?? singapore or canada? and which part of canada?Originally posted by Ponders:Its PROVINCE in canada.
I stayed in Canada during their recession times.
For those who are migrating now, it's really their boom time and i would like to congrats those who are moving and got their PR.
I returned to canada earlier this year, to have a look see. it really is much better than their recession times.
I can tell you, during their recession, everybody is trying to take bits of you and government was very immigrant unfriendly.
THings are much better now...
downside (for those wanting to save up to migrate)... CAD is now stronger than USD.
My time, USD is 1.6 times CAD (i.e. almost parring SGD).
