It is best to read proper history texts and researched documents on the separation than to just talk without any sense of what transpired actually. There are enough written materials on this issue for those who wants to seek 'proper insight'.
One must bear in mind the geopolitical environment and the racial composition. It is a very delicate matter. I think recently there was a newspaper article on relationship with MY.
To make it short: MY will always hold that SG is part of MY. This is historically correct bcos Temasek was under the Johor Sultanate before this angmoh with the folded arms came ashore and twisted the arm of the Johor sultan and demanded to set up a trading post (displaced the fishing post) in return for a few pounds! -
