for. Without it, everyday a lot more people will get killed. Then the killer will get free shelter and food at jail for the rest of her life.
There will also be more drug trafficking. And more will die as a result. (more than those who died of capital punishment anyway) -

the only drawback i feel about the death penalty is if the accused is framed. then it would be a really sad waste of life. -

For, right now people are still not mature enough to forgive and forget... even if you do let the criminals live, the people around them have already given them the death sentence.
Moroever, a person given that sentence will be hail as King/Queen in the prison so the chance of him/her getting the just punishment is zero.
And like other forumites have said, this will deter others from committing the crime. -

Capital punishment imo is not solely punitive. It also serves to deter by telling people the heavy price one has to pay for taking somebody's life.Originally posted by da-cheese-freakk:but two wrongs do not make a right
But I have to admit there may be cases where one is wrongly accused of murder. -
I ought to elaborate - I'm completely against mandatory death penalties for any offences. I object to the penalty itself only because I believe that the lives of other people are not ours to end, and we would be stooping to the level of the criminal by seeking justice this way. That is strong enough for me and I do not have to account to anyone else.

I'm for it, I just wish those that were receiving it didn't sit in prison for years and years waiting for it to be carried out.

by that statement, are you not denying the rights to justice for the victims of crime ? ....
Every society has clearly defined boundaries of behavior, law and order is the corner stone of every civilization ... by denying justice, you will not create an utopia ... you will just create anarchy, chaos, a Darwinian place ...
your sympathies are mis-placed my dear ... say then, who are the murderers then, to deny their victims' right as human beings ? .... their right to live ? ....
