The proposed increase in the Maid's Levy is suppose to create more job opportunities for Singaporeans, and also to protect these jobs for Singaporeans.
The questions that we should then ask are:
How many Singaporeans who have lost their jobs - whether executives or assembly line production workers - would take on a lower paying job that has an euphuistically named title of "Professional Housekeeper" ?
How many jobs can this policy create to justify the hardship for those who depend on full time foreign workers to help look after the aged, the terminally ill, the invalid, and the immobile ?
Can the "Professional Housekeeper" be better in performance than a Full Time Live-in Maid ?
Economically, is it more advantageous to have a Full Time Live-In Maid than a Professional Housekeeper whose service is availabe at contracted times of the day, week or month ?
