By Elections - 2007

  This is a post from "Scroobal" in SBF. If it is true, I gather that there is only 3 months more before it can happen, or it will be next year. If not, then it's another hearsay.

  This first surfaced a week ago.
  
  Apparently there has been concern over the lack of leadership material for the post of PM in the present lot. This came to a head as result of the annuities issue. Unfortunately the leading candidate is no longer firm and 3 others do not qualify, one on age.
  
  Rather than wait until 2011 and loose the opportunity to test and groom a candidate, the desire to have an by-elections by next year is on the cards.
  
  My bet is that it will be a repeat of the Teo Chee Hean affair with the Marine Parade By Elections. This time around will it be Ang Mo Kio and is there an MP to be expended?

  If LHL loses the AMK by-election, WKS of nearby BSH will become PM by virtue of his position in the Cabinet. That guy is arrogant. I don't think he can handle the role.

  I think it's probably not favourable to the PAP now but it's necessary for the future of PAP. If they were to wait till later to have a by-election or even not hold one until the next election in 2010 or 2011, not only do they lose a chance to test the abilities of any potential PM candidates, they might even lose all the contesting GRC members. That's assuming that the oppositions continue to put their act together and become more popular among Singaporeans.

  I don't see one coming leh. Put AMK GRC at stake? I think they'll rather test YCK SMC next door. That one won 74% leh!
