I should also compare Spore to South Korea. Korea is also one of the little dragon n its brand is now becoming the latest consumer brand to be used inOriginally posted by 4getmenot:not to forget Asus, Gigabyte..Coolermaster..
What is this? Doublespeak?Originally posted by mozzi190:imho...i tink that we take for granted what Singapore is able to offer....we take for granted what is readily avaliable...it is true that the goverment policies might be stifling...but at the end of the day...after being in another country for 20 to 30 yrs....one day u will still tink of returning back to sg..where all yr frens and families are...i am currently in oz now...but i know of a lot of singaporeans tt are PR there but will never take up oz citizenship..coz they all tell me tt they see themselves back in sg..and tt oz can never be called a true home....but it's true tt ppl in oz have a higher quality of life..they have more time for their families and ppl out here are a lot less stressed up and friendlier...there's onli one sg in the entire world...no matter how we think of sg...it's still home and where we belong...we might all criticise our government..but when we get flame by our neighbours from across the straits..u can see tt Singaporeans are also capable of alot of patriotism....much more than ppl from othe countries...
It is becos singaporean is too content with PAP that they allow PAP to step over us without any opposition. They may start the million dollar salary as the first step. Next step may increase their salary to billion if u think complaints and opposition are counterproductive!Originally posted by breytonhartge:the fact of the matter is, whatever government is in power, the situation will still be the same old... it may look rosy and good for the first couple of years, then governments get complacent, and will eventually be ousted or if they stay in power long enough, then you come back to the same situation with what we have now, people complaining about how complacent and useless the government is...
complaining is always counter productive, imagine if you took the amount of time you spent complaining and spent that on thinking how to imporve your situation...![]()
Oh,i thought firing blanks, especially using newspaper n media as propaganda tools, hoping that people will believe in what one's said,is Lee Kuan Yew profession^^Originally posted by Gazelle:Are you able to support your claim that majority of singaporeans dont like LKY Or are you simply firing blanks hoping that people will believe what you said?
because it is easier to complain others than to move their own butt.Originally posted by breytonhartge:it really amazes me that people can find so much time complaining about what they think the government did or did not do...
the bottom line is this, everyone has the same amount of hours in the day, everyone be they rich or poor are playing in the same swimming pool, so at the end of the day, how much you achieve is not limited by the government, it is limited by the individual.
I agreed Spore has more opportunities for each person to achieve especially for the Malaysian n Indonesian.Originally posted by january:because it is easier to complain others than to move their own butt.
government do affect individual life, if you look at some lousier countries. In singapore though, there are enough opportunities for one to achieve.
i don't think that it pays for one to be myopic in one's view. Opportunities are there for everyone you just have to be willing to make the effort, there are two kinds of people in the world, one that sees the glass as half full and the orther that sees the glass as half empty.Originally posted by will4:I agreed Spore has more opportunities for each person to achieve especially for the Malaysian n Indonesian.
show me a credible opposition and then we can talk... so far there have only been a handful of notable opposition candidates... the rest are laughable.Originally posted by zenden9:It is becos singaporean is too content with PAP that they allow PAP to step over us without any opposition. The way to make PAP to work for the best of Singaporean and not themselves is to have a balance party. If u don't work hard, other party will take over u.
Just like US has republican and Democrats. Just like someone is chasing yr beautiful gf, which will kick some senses into u and make u treasure yr gal more and not slack!
Yeah rite..........no need to work.....just shaved bald......put on orange piece of cloth......get free food and lodging and walk the streets to show support for protesters.....and say "peace be to all". Just make sure my next meal is still free [protesters, make sure to pay for my food and lodging bills].....Originally posted by mistyblue:Burmese monk teach us a lesson.
I can't disagree with many of the things written here, but I certainly find some (not all, not most) PAP candidates laughable as wellOriginally posted by breytonhartge:show me a credible opposition and then we can talk... so far there have only been a handful of notable opposition candidates... the rest are laughable.
Singapore's government is one that is in a very unique situation, we do not have a big country and as such cannot run it like the US or any other country for that matter... it is a specialised environment. At least our government is capable of a 20 year plan... which cannot be said for governments in other countries, at most each has a 4 year plan...
Maybe your last statement is also applicable to the naysayers of the Singapore government... Singaporean's have it so good that maybe we need a kick in the butt to realise that we should treasure what we have.
The one thing that the government have been shown is stability, this is always a plus point to consider.
Reading ur this article reminded I about this minister who wanted to create a national football team to compete in the world cup.Originally posted by Melvin Tan:I can't disagree with many of the things written here, but I certainly find some (not all, not most) PAP candidates laughable as well
While some (again, not all) opposition candidates were indeed laughable, they did not win whereas the laughable PAP candidates actually wonAnd I believe they didn't cause serious destruction to Singapore, except maybe towards PAP.

for the TS,
I found this quote which I thought would be interesting for you:
I have learned from experience that
the greater part of our happiness or misery
depends on our dispositions
and not on our circumstances.
