The reason why there are more indian and chineses migrating to singapore is not because the singapore immigration law favor them, but rather, their willingness to make a living in this country.Originally posted by MRidzwan:Singapore has been bringing in plenty of immigrants from China and India to counter the growth of its Malay population.

Hi Ridzwan,Originally posted by MRidzwan:i know u're not. but this was the impression that the minorities had initially, that Chinese singaporeans are thrilled over the fact that their brothers and sisters from China are joining them for a nice family re-union.
But as a true blue Singaporean, we are worried about the future of our country once these "instant citizens" come in. It's not about race that makes us uneasy. If they were Malaysian Malay immigrants we would feel the same too. That us, local born Singaporeans who would die for our land, are losing out to free roaming foreigners here just to make a fortune and enjoy the good life our fathers have built.
Think what he said was the "initial view" of some minority.Originally posted by Croaking_Toad:Hi Ridzwan,
Ask any local chinese and most of them would disagree with your sweeping statement. We certainly do not regard Chinese from China as our brothers and sisters. This is unlike the Malay population where there is a brotherhood (or sisterhood) of people of the same ethnicity throughout this region. In fact, the chinese in china regard us as not 'pure' chinese as our ancestors took the decision of sailing on a rickety ship for weeks in search of a better life ages ago. Therefore in their eyes, they are of superior quality than us.
But because of money, they have now come to our shores, in hopes of earning a better pay and getting a better life. However, please note that, they regard themselves a separate entity from the local chinese here, something the authorities ought to check on.
So while they may be chinese in ethnicity, we don't feel a bond with them and neither are we jumping for joy at their presence here!!!
Globalization is just the latest word in a long line of words throughout history that has prompted emigration. Emigration is something that you and everyone else has to live with. It started happening 5,000 years ago and will go on at least in the forseeable future, I dare say for the next 200 years at least.Originally posted by MRidzwan:i know u're not. but this was the impression that the minorities had initially, that Chinese singaporeans are thrilled over the fact that their brothers and sisters from China are joining them for a nice family re-union.

What you say is true...please continueOriginally posted by MRidzwan:Correct me if i am wrong on this) Furthermore, from what i heard from rumours is that Malays in Singapore gets better subsidies for eductation, housing, etc.
Im sorry bro, but the above statement is no longer true.
Malays receiving special priveleges is one of the biggest myth towards this race and i wrote about it before
http://muhammad-ridzwan.blogspot.com/2006/10/myths-about-singapore-malays.html
Just like you, the Chinese and Indians, us Malays are roughing it out to support our families without special help from the government.
Those free university fees etc have been taken back ever since mendaki was established together with cdac and sinda
u sure anot.....i can't stand PRCOriginally posted by MRidzwan:i know u're not. but this was the impression that the minorities had initially, that Chinese singaporeans are thrilled over the fact that their brothers and sisters from China are joining them for a nice family re-union.

it is the same in Malaysia, Chinese accounted for 40% of the population 30 years ago, but now Chinese is only 26% by another 10 years, it becomes 18%Originally posted by MRidzwan:Singapore has been bringing in plenty of immigrants from China and India to counter the growth of its Malay population. This is presumably to keep our ethnic proportions in check. But what is the cost to our nation in the long run?
Singapore’s latest population census is out. According to figures from the Department of Statistics, the percentage of Malays in Singapore has declined to just 13.5% – down from 14% in 1990. This comes in despite the fact that Malays have the most superior fertility rates when compared against the Chinese and Indians.

Agree and believe we should benefit more by accepting and embracing rather than resisting diversity/plurality be it in race, language, culture or religion.Originally posted by Coquitlam:Globalization is just the latest word in a long line of words throughout history that has prompted emigration. So now u mean that Singaporeans dont have the required skills?I seriously doubt that!!!Yes,rubbish cleaners or some high risk jobs require foreign works.BUT,some high paid and normal jobs should reserve for Singaporeans.Originally posted by kramnave:Immigrants babies may or may not have the skills but presently the immigrants have.
When you migrate, they look at your skills, not at the potential of your baby.
If you want to be a waitress or a waiter, flip the classifieds. There are vacancies everyday. Look, certain jobs Singaporeans won't have the skill. The casino for example. Not many, if at all have the experience of doing surveilance in a casino or being a pit boss etc. When the IR is ready, we know that it is technically impossible to staff it fully with Singaporeans, it'll make no sense. Similarly as Singapore is creating jobs in this and that industry, there will be jobs that require experience that Singaporeans don't possess.Originally posted by drawer:So now u mean that Singaporeans dont have the required skills?I seriously doubt that!!!Yes,rubbish cleaners or some high risk jobs require foreign works.BUT,some high paid and normal jobs should reserve for Singaporeans.
I read in newspaper that day about a Philippinos waitress accidentally found a large sum of money and return to the owner and was praised being honest. And later,i learn she earned one month $1800.LOL,if i earn $1800 per month,i also will be "honest".And what,Singaporeans are not "skilled" to be waitress or waiter?
And on one occasion,i phone to the starhub for techinical assistance about my modemn. They direct me to call another number, who is a philippinos answering, now starhub also need foreign technicians?
ape dah thank you?Originally posted by mhcampboy:thank you.
Your above comment is the problem we are facing right now.The PAP government, just like you,are scare of foreigners and only care about them and ignore whether their own countrymen are getting a job or not!!!The excuses saying Singaporeans lack of experience are simply bullsh!t!!!!No job in this world are so hard that a human cannot do,unless u are saying that Singaporeans are not human!!!!Originally posted by kramnave:If you want to be a waitress or a waiter, flip the classifieds. We read of banks l expanding operations in Singapore etc Were there enough Singaporeans to take up those jobs ? I read an article sometime back that the banks found it rather difficult to find enough talent to do operations and had to source regionally.
Don't be mistaken that we are what employers are looking for. It never pays to be complacent. It doesn't mean that if we are Singaporean we get a divine right to be employed irregardless of whether we are what the employers are looking for.
There are jobs around even though you see alot of FT around. Go look around, getting it is another thing.
The kind of ignorance and bigotry you display is the very reason why Singapore will lose out in competitiveness to rapidly industralizing nations like China and India. Foreigners are needed to power our economy because we lack the skilled manpower who are able to fill the vacant jobs in the biomedical industries, as well as the semi-skilled and unkilled workers willing to accept the kind of low wages foreign workers are willing to work for. Without foreign workers we will lose out in competitiveness and our economy will stagnate.Originally posted by drawer:Your above comment is the problem we are facing right now.The PAP government, just like you,are scare of foreigners and only care about them and ignore whether their own countrymen are getting a job or not!!!The excuses saying Singaporeans lack of experience are simply bullsh!t!!!!No job in this world are so hard that a human cannot do,unless u are saying that Singaporeans are not human!!!!
No experience?Once a Singaporean get the job,he can learn as he goes, whats so difficult? Some of our PAP ministers, including PAP leaders, only care that they themselves got a "high pay" job and that they dont lose their "iron bowl",they dont care whether Singaporeans are getting a job or not!!!This is the problem we are facing right now!!!!
