socio economic background and education

i have noticed many students in top schools come from a very comfortable background, middle-high income bracket families. and they are the ones who normally succeed, if i define succeed as doing well in studies. what do you guys think?

Success can definitely be defined in more ways than studies. It goes into everything - career, hobby, family etc.

They are backed up with tons of money. More time to study, more time for fun and cca and friends. Some even drive Lamborghini or Ferrari to school. Laughing and enjoying school life. Some even have scholarship.
As for us poor people, school fee is already a burden, where got time for fun and study properly. No scholarship, no assistance. waiting to die.
Dislike all these rich Uni Kids.

For sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can!
Rich kids may have more resources and opportunities at present but is the battle over yet?
So why you complaining?
You shud just focus on your own circumstances and try to do the best at all times - concentrate on the action to be done and not the results because if you've put in the effort in the action, they will bear fruit!

Also got to do with their upbringing. rich people are usually taught about the value of money at very young age and that is why you see that most rich people tend to be more stingy as compare to middle or lower income. having said that, being book smart doesnt mean it will bring you success in life later on. -

The important thing is for normal kids to study hard, never mind if they are surrounded by rich snobs.
If you know anyone who cannot afford to pay school fees, remember to ask him or her to make lots of noise about it through whatever channels - their MP or the local / foreign media

It's not a new concept. In Sociology, I believe this line of thought is known as the Conflictarian Perspective (Correct me if I'm wrong). Where because of the socio-economic situation of your parents, you would find it hard to rise beyond that distinct social class. In Singapore, they'll say that with meritocracy, we have a chance to elevate our social status, based upon the 'merits' we contribute to society, irregardless of our standing social-economic condition. In other words, there's a presence of Social Mobility, upon which many welfarist based states are criticized for sorely lacking off.
