they have done nothing since the start of the Myanmar crisis, other than issuing extremely fanciful words of condemnation, especially SG's, using vocab such as "obstrusive", "repulsive", "abhorrent"......paper ministers, paper generals....

USA pressure him to go back to myanmar immediately again for talks, but now the joker is on a 6-nation ASEAN tour to "gather support" and "create the right political atmosphere" before going back to Yangon in mid-Nov.
so far, this joker has visited Thailand and Malaysia, and all gave lame excuses, obviously trying to push the buck around, and Gambari in turn, says the resposibility lies with ASEAN to resolve this....blah x 3.....

so far, the only ones doing real action is the west.....the whites.

japan has cancelled the major aid packages to myanmar and europe / usa has further imposed sanctions on the myanmar military.
and what has our own ASEAN folks done so far, besides giving oh-so-inspiring speeches and issuing a mountain of condemnation letters?

With political leaders in ASEAN having values that contrast each other in different shades, and each evolving from differing history, can ASEAN gell itself into a common value to confront the Myanmar Military Junta ?
Unfortunately, the Myanmar Junta continue to take all the necessary steps to tighten their grip on Myanmar society, by closing its borders, and as much as it appear on the surface to have tone down its militancy, the midnight raids and arrests continue as news begin to leak out of Myanmar.
Can ASEAN afford to disengage itself by kicking Myanmar out of this regional organisation ?
Can ASEAN afford to cut all lines of communication and all possible leverage that it may have in continuing to engage the Myanmar Military Junta ?
The pulls in the different direction by the various Political Leaders of all the ASEAN member countries will result in ASEAN being largely an ineffective organisation to handle the problems in one their own member state.
Can they even agree on any solution to help the Myanmar Citizens to achieve a more open society that allow the Citizens to take charge of their own lives ?
Any such positive development in Myanmar will backfire and have repercussions on the imagination of citizens having similar governments that suppress their Citizens in a closed political society.
Such ASEAN countries will include Singapore, Vietnam, and Laos - where the supremacy of a domineering Single Political Party in each country continue to exist through ensuring its own political survival, by preventing the Citizens from having meaningful alternative political options.
Surely, MM Lee and his MIW clones in Government know only too well the repercussion of ASEAN intervention in the domestic politics of one of their member state.
The next step in ASEAN evolution will be to establish an ASEAN Regional Court of Justice - similar to the International Court of Justice in Europe - in which rogue governments can be taken to task by the Citizens. -
that's the problem of globalisation.
now that countries are way more connected to one another, it's also harder to take actions against the other. -

ASEAN seek peaceful stabilities co-exist not confronting and War in this region. It is willing to accept an authoritarin regime so long as it does not distablized the region. It believe that no leader is going to stay there for ever.
